I love PBC......but
This PBC is the greatest thing since slice bread, but they jump around to too many of them cable chanels. Some if them I ain't never even hurd of. This Al Hayman needs to pick just 1 Chanel and stIck with it. I don't know nothing about branding but yinz can't get no following if yinz are putting these PBCs on different network each week
Re: I love PBC......but
Gtfo. Premier Boxing Shitehole is utter garbage and if you like this bollocks you're part of the problem.
Re: I love PBC......but
Hell, I don't think I even had the channel the Thompson fight was on. So there is that.
But, all in all, the PBC is much more good than bad. And the telling thing is the fighters themselves love it.
Fact is the PBC has many FOTY candidates.

Re: I love PBC......but
Obviously the boxers are loving the PBC because they are getting paid big money to knock out some truck drivers and cabbies. Most of the cards are crap and not even worth watching. Haymon's plan is to have one or two big fights a year and then flood the networks with pathetic one sided fights for the rest of the cards and try to build up the names of these fighters without risking them losing so he matches them up softly.
Overall it's bad for boxing because he's directing a large stable of top boxers away from taking tough fights. For every good PBC fight, there's 15 to 20 bad fights. That's not a great average. It's horrible for us boxing fans.

Indeed, at least before with various promotional companies, fights could still get made because of the money involved. PAc/Hatton and Pac/Floyd being good examples of cross over promotions where promoters hated each other. Go back further there's more examples, Don King/Arum etc.
Never before though do I recall a promoter/manager/consortium like we have here with Haymon actually ring-fenced so many top fighter for their own in-house bullsh*t as a rotten commercial exercise.
I read last week the consortium backing this nonsense have lost something like 75% of their investment, long may it continue until Haymon and his Premier Boxing Mismatches folds and is forgotten about completely. F*ck Al Haymon.

Re: I love PBC......but
The one good thing I'll say about Haymon is that he's brought in some nice overseas talent that you usually don't see fighting stateside. McDonnell, the Kameda Bros, Huck, Kono, Frampton, etc. This weekend Keita Obara (Japanese/OPBF champ at 140) is fighting on NBCSN too. It seems like he's more willing to put on competitive matchups between fighters who are more obscure in the US.
Sadly for guys like the Charlo Bros, it's mismatch central.

Re: I love PBC......but
Ten years from now, I predict that there will be multiple lawsuits against Haymon and his crew for messing up the careers of a lot of these boxers. The average Pro Boxer has a very small window of prime to work with and he's just wasting these kids by putting them in there with chumps. Is there ONE good Haymon boxer on the schedule for a big fight right now? I can't think of one upcoming fight to be excited for. Imagine that? With that stable of boxers, not one big fight planned for the end of the year? Pathetic.Ricky_ wrote:jockpunk wrote:This. And screw this whole "free" boxing because I'd rather pay for HBO subscription and PPV for the fights that I would like to see. Look at the Welterweight division right now. The strongest division in perhaps the history of the sport and none of them are scheduled to fight each other and aside from Manny and Floyd, nothing.
This guy is no good for the sport.

I doubt any fighters will be suing Haymon. They're getting well paid for gimme fights. They're probably loving it for the most part.

This is a good point; you're allowed to take a risk, it seems, if you don't have a US passport.

Nyambayar and Min Wook have both been on PBC shows in non televised bouts too so there is certainly some thing good to come from it alljujigatame wrote:The one good thing I'll say about Haymon is that he's brought in some nice overseas talent that you usually don't see fighting stateside. Re: I love PBC......but
I'm getting to see boxing on TV. 'Free' boxing and most of the fights are slugfests with occasional upsets.
To me this is the greatest thing that has happened to boxing in a long long time. Getting more fans to watch boxing is key to keeping this sport alive now that MMA is EVERYWHERE. Boxing is dying and if it takes a promoter to toss in a bunch of great fighters we would never see outside of PPV on primetime TV for FREE then so be it. Give it to me, give it to me and keep it coming.

Hey jewboypgh, I with youse brother. Any free fight is a good fight...sort of... or most of the time.
Re: I love PBC......but
I've got a boatload of fights to catch up with and my PVR is over 80% full with PBC fights and the wife is started to get pissed off she can't record Coronation Street and Mob Wives.
I don't care though boxing is the priority.
As for having it all on one channel I'm all for having wherever I can watch it and if that means various networks then so be it.

Re: I love PBC......but
I'm happy with what PBC is doing. I would like to see more competitive bouts consecutively, but the promotion is still in it's infancy, relatively speaking. As they continue to build up their stable, I'm sure the match ups will become increasingly better.
I was extremely impressed with their Cleverly/Fonfara; Komeda/Kono card on free TV. This was one of the most exciting cards of the year. And the first time two Japanese fighters have fought for a championship on US soil.
I'm all for supporting this brand rather than bashing it.

Re: I love PBC......but
The short version
The bottom line is people watching on tv and online want to see a fight.
As much as both big networks out here want to comprise with the principles of our sport while awakened to the reality of what people want to see puts them in a quandary.
Surprised they haven't worked it out yet .

The PBC is offering so many fights you can't keep up. Who else is doing that?
Yes, there are a bunch of bad match ups, they're bunch of good ones.
Anyone who is trying to infer that the PBC is bad for boxing has some alternate agenda.

Only an idiot would believe an investment consortium ring-fencing a chunk of top fighters to compete in a new in-house franchise is good for boxing.
Cue BAD INTENTIONS i guess.

Why is it so offensive to point out clearly shitty match making? Agenda is definitely showing, sounds like the direction of that agenda is where the discrepancy lies.
Re: I love PBC......but
I just wish Alan Hayman would just pick 1 chanel and stick with it for his PBC. Spike, Versus, NBC, CBS, .......Its hard to keep
up with the channels. They need to do that branding crap like USA NETWORK did for TUESDAY NIGHT FIGHTS or ESPN2 did
for FNFights. PBC just needs to go and get em selves 1 network. It would be tits if they could land NBC for the same slot every
week. Yinz will see a whole generation of new fighters cause them poor kids would watch them fights for free.
I been thinking them PBC fights have been good. USA Network Tuesday Night Fights featured retreads like Jimmy Thunder.
PBC got guys like Vasquez, Thurmans, Wilder. Whoever out that in interntet land is bashing free PBC boxing on tv is a real jerk.

Aug 1, Aug 2, Aug 14, Aug 15, Aug 29,
Sept 6, Sept 8, Sept 11, Sept 12, Sept 15, Sept 18, Sept 22, Sept 26, Sept 29
Oct 6, Oct 10, Oct 13, Oct 14, Oct 16, Oct 17, Oct 30, Oct 31
That's 22 cards from a company in the 6th, 7th and 8th months of its existence.
And you're not even willing to give them a chance?
I've been a serious fan for about 11 years now and a stretch of fights like that has been unheard of for ALL networks and promotions.
And stop trying to make it seem like all the fights were garbage. Not the case.
Even if 50% are shit, just by sheer volume that still means the PBC is putting out more good fights than Showtime and HBO combined.
And all on basic cable and free TV.
As a fan, I can't see the logic of someone writing this company off before it's 9th month of existence,
especially considering what boxing has been for at least the last 11 years.
So because you don't even offer a chance, a year grace period, instead you automatically label this thing a plague,
it's clear you have some time of bias or agenda, maybe you work for HBO ...
Let me know when Rios/Alvarado 4 happens ...
