Great point. Those guys rolled in like they would KO their opponents with no trounble. EVEN knowing their record. EVEN after testing their chin. And even after they felt the other man's power. In every Povetkin boxing match you just feel so much more power as with any Wilder boxing match in the entire history...

Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
looks like cuenca lost his title by ko in his first defense.
i was thinking that guy would have been a good opportunity for matthysse to
have big title fight in argentina and come back from that loss to postol.
still haven't heard anything from the povetkin fight. povetkin's people told
the WBC he won't ready for his mandatory fight with wilder until april, so the
WBC approved a january voluntary defense for wilder. if wach pulls off an upset
like olafabi did by ko5 today that complicates everything. lebedev ko's kayode in 8.

It says Vityaz in Russian on the back of Povetkin's trunks. That was a Russian internal special forces unit. Tough guys.

Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
BS stoppage to give Povetkin an official TKO win over granite-chinned fighter. The cut was under eye and it had no danger for Wach's vision. Saying that, Wach had no chance of winning and it was great performance from Povetkin. He looked as fast as ever and although he wasn't able to really hurt Wach, Wlad couldn't do that too.

Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
I was a little disappointed as well, yes Povetkin was clearly the best, despite beïng the smallest, I even think heavyweight top matches could or should take 15 rounds instead of 12 after seeing how fit Povetkin still was after 11 rounds. But Wach wasn't really KO, even though he clearly had pain in his face after the match and didn't like to be touched on it. I do think Wach needs one or two sutures actually.
Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
Povetkin looked strong, but he ate every jab thrown in the first round as he used to do in earlier fights. But then Wach stopped throwing jab in the second, barely pawing his lead hand from then on and hardly ever throwing his right. He did basically nothing for the whole fight and showed no ambition to win at all, though it could be expected based on his behavour and words at pressers.
The stoppage was an obvious BS call in order to make Povetkin's record look better. That cut below the eye was there for half the fight, it was of no danger to his sight, and there was only 1 minute to go till the end of the fight.

Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
..I watched the last 6 rounds. Wach looked demoralised and pretty much helpless losing every round...the stoppage with one minute to go was BS though...

Wach did not seem to complain though...
Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
Wach and Kayode never had a prayer in this match ups. Yet, for some reason, the books made that totally unproven scab Kudrayshov a bigger favorite than them against the first live opponent he's ever faced. Sometimes I wonder.

He had no chance of winning, that's why he didn't complain. But he would definitely went full distance - Povetkin's punches didn't hurt him.Aaronide_ger wrote:Wach did not seem to complain though...

Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
Wach probably only appriciated it as well, in 5 years you only see him back in 1 minit vids and if you see him losing like this you think it's an unfair lose, while it really wasn't. I think this is better as losing 12 rounds in points, especially if you know that would have been fair.Boxing Writer wrote:He had no chance of winning, that's why he didn't complain. He had no chance to win - it wasn't as tho he was throwing bombs that might have landed - and there was a chance that the cut by the eye could get hurt much worse in the time remaining, so I think it was a good stoppage.

Learning experience. I think they will become better fighters because of it.
Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
Good performance from Povetkin. Clearly the number two heavyweight in the world at the moment.
Kudryashov is rubbish. He can bang like hell but that is all he can do. He has no movement, his legs don't move, his feet don't move, his head doesn't move. He is slow, he has limited defence. He was always going to get found out before too long.
Chakhkiev was absolutely barmy. First two rounds it looked like some street hardman vs a professional boxer, there was only going to be one winner after the Russian knackered himself out. What possessed him to employ such ludicrous tactics is beyond me, stupid, utterly stupid.
Lebedev boxed smartly and was a class above his opponent.

Really glad Ola Afolabi won a world title. IBO are below WBO but above WBF WBU IBU etc GGG and Wlad hold versions of it too! Ola deserves it. Hard worker.
Re: Povetkin-Wach, Lebedev-Kayode and Chakhkiev-Afolobi
I hope Ola gets another world title shot for one of the main governing bodies again as he has been a great servant to the sport, he's fought everyone everywhere and not had a promoter to protect him and gift him a word title.salaambrown wrote:Really glad Ola Afolabi won a world title. I look forward to watch Dmitry Bivol again, if he doesn't win a world title in his career I'd be shocked.

So are there any obstacles to Drozd/Lebedev getting made? Because that seems like the biggest fight that can be made in the CW division right now.
