Possable missing fight

Post by rayhs »

I read a book called "Amazing But True Sports Stories" it was written by Phyllis and Zander Hoolander in 1986

It had 2 fights listed in it (a DQ for biteing and the other a comeback fight to revenge a loss after 20 years) the biteing one was added to boxrec after I posted it here (George Burton vs. Rick Dawson)

The other was

Thomas/Wallace III "Charlotte's greatest fight"

Waban (Tugboat) Thomas id=028227 vs. Neil Wallace id=056874

December 14, 1977 Charlotte, NC (there was a card at this date and city)

Neil Wallace wins by TKO in the 8th round

It does say that Wallce had'nt had a fight since the last time they fought in 1957, but it also says that Thomas had'nt fought sence 1971 so I don't know

I looked up 75% of their baseball and football stories and all were true no reason for one of their boxing stories to be made up and the other to be true

I would realy like a thumb up or down on this if you could rather than a no reply

Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post

yes, that fight happened -- it was reported in Hank Kaplan's newspaper (Hank Kaplan's Boxing World Sep. 1978, p. 11)shortly after it happened but I didn't have the exact date and so had not enetered it.

The longest time between rematches:

22 Years, 5 months: Larry Holmes vs. Mike Weaver -- -- Holmes repeats kayo of Weaver

20 Years, 1 month -- Waban “Tugboat” Thomas vs. Neil Wallace:

Also of interest --
