There is no way anyone will convince me that Scott Cardle wouldn't have been given a count if they show was on the other foot. Terry O'Conner therefore applied the rules without unfairly. A referee should be there to ensure a fair contest. In this country they too often fail to do this and seek to give the promoter's fighter an advantage. Yet, it is just accepted by the media, no other sport would stand for this- why is it just accepted in boxing?
I agree completely, and I can't understand the shrugging of shoulders and "that's boxing" reaction from most people.

It is actually endemic in british boxing.

Boxers mentioned in this thread - Cox and Boomer - have both benefitted from the same type of refereeing in the Sai fight and the first Ovil fight.

In these fights there were different referees - o'connor is bad (and clearly takes full advantage of the promoters hospitality at the all you can eat buffet) but they are all the same, they all know which side their bread is buttered.

How many times did Mickey Vann referee Ricky Hatton? - there were times he should have been stopped on cuts but Van always let him fight on when he would have stopped the fight if it had been somebody else.

We even have the cheek to say "he needs to knock him out to get a draw in Germany(or any other country)" yet it is just as bad in this country.

Add into the mix that the referees are a closed shop (within the closed shop that is the BBBofC) and you can start to join the dots.
Boxing forums. Where fat shaming is acceptable.

Speaks loudly of your character
I take it from your post that you are also familiar with the all you can eat buffet ?

For me that acts as more evidence for the original posts point.

When Cardle was hurt nothing, as soon as Dodd was hurt you could just see Terry itching to stop it.

I think things were better before we had the mandatory 8 count. The onus then was on the boxer to get up when he was ready to fight on. If he got up too early, and was obviously unable to properly defend himself, the ref would stop the fight. These days a boxer going down from a "soft" kd gets penalised by losing an extra point (or sometimes 3 points if he was winning the round!) or sometimes the boxer scoring the kd gets penalised by the ref giving his opponent far longer than 10 seconds to recover (by the time he wipes his gloves, gets him to walk towards him, asks him if he wants to go on ,etc).

Devastated for Masher there he's a brilliant lad for a Birkenheader like and considering he only ever put gloves on for the first time a few years back his last 2 fights have been a massive achievement.

Hopefully con-man Eddie is good to his word for once and gives him his rematch on another big show!!

I think Hearn will stick by the rematch to be fair.

I doubt very much if its in the interests of fairness though just think he realised Cardle isn't really going past domestic level so may as well put the rematch on rather than stepping up the opponents

Hmmm, I dunno...does Eddie have any experience in promoting a rematch after a controversial stoppage? :OhYes:

Lets not let a debatable stoppage overshadow what was an incredible fight in which both lads showed immense heart.

It was a decent scrap and quite exciting to watch but I think the praise people have been giving the fight is a bit OTT in my opinion, found it quite sloppy to watch at times.

Agree it was sloppy and full of mistakes but was brilliant entertainment IMO and both showed a tonne of heart.

Terry oconnor is so dramatic when he stops fights as well.... His face and body language is like "no, no, I'm so compassionate.... Someone needs to save this guy from himself.... And it's me...... 'Tender' Terry O Connor!!"

It was an annoying stoppage - but it's done now.

There will be no excuses from either Masher or Cardle after the rematch.

Maybe they get Ian John Lewis to ref it and hope he's in a Vitali vs Briggs kinda mood :D

What dya mean brilliant for a birkenheader cheeky get haha, eddie hearn will give him the rematch cause he is a business man and masher and the vebture sell plenty of tickets, masher will get another crack but this fight reminds me of the paul smith vs arthur abraham fight, smith had his chance cause abraham thought he would walk thru him, cardle will turn up for the next fight and it will be a walk over i think,no dis to masher but i feel this will happen.

Your missing the point. A fighter who thinks he can carry on will always protest a stoppage and quite often when they can't.
Dodd did not protest and by tapping the ref made a gesture of saying "you called it right"
Anyway I think he has a rematch now so it's not worth going on about is it?

Another point is that it was not a legal blow that put Masher over , a forearm smash to the back of the head . I actually thought Ref was waving to say it was not a knockdown , not to wave it off .

Masher was very unlucky on Saturday night for a few reasons , at least deserved a count

Yep. The last 2 'punches' were actually forearms, and both were on the back of the head.
