Carl Froch Return
Carl Froch Return
BBC Sport has an article with Froch who states that he would consider coming back to reclaim his old IBF belt against Degale.
I find it highly that he would come back now, especially as he has spoken for a while about not being motivated to box. Additionally, if he was to come back for one more fight, what would be the point in trying to win back his SMW title and then retire again. If he is going to come back, make it that big Vegas fight you wanted, and try and target someone like GGG.
His comments are probably just to massage his own ego, but I would love to see him in the ring one more time as long as it was against the right opponent.

Re: Carl Froch Return
So he wouldnt fight Degale as a champion but is willing to do so as a challenger? Or is Froch still the champion Emiratus?

Eddie: Never mind that now, I could do with a bit of help selling Degale v Bute. Although it's a British world champion, Olympic gold medalist fighting a former champ none of the press seem to give a crap. Fancy teasing people with a little comeback suggestion to fight Degale if he wins? Get it talked about as one of the main sports stories on the BBC website?

The Carl Froch that beat George Groves, would've beaten DeGale too. If he was going to fight DeGale, that would've been the time to do it. Carl decided he had nothing to prove, which he didn't, and retired.
Why wait, add a year's worth of ring rust and age get to you, then come back and fight for a title that you previously gave up, only to retire again straight after? It's nonsensical.
Beating DeGale means nothing for Froch at the moment. He has nothing left to prove. It doesn't do anything to further DeGale's career particularly, because if he wins he beat somebody coming out of retirement, if he loses he may as well pack it in.
A fight so extremely pointless, I lose respect for Froch for even suggesting it.

Completely agree, if he is going to come back for a fight, make it against someone with a Global reputation, not a domestic one.ILikeBeer wrote:I hope that's all this is, because it seems an idea without any real merit to it.Lenny wrote:Ring, ring

Re: Carl Froch Return
I know you hate DeGale but he is the best SMW in the world right now, if Carl came back and beat him of course it would add to his legacy. Elite boxers can have time out of the ring and come back fresh these days just look at Vitali and FMJ. It would be a huge pay day for DeGale and he doesn't care about legacy as he's already accomplished what he set out to do by becoming the first British Olympic gold medallist to win a world title, James is only after the money now to take care of his family and this fight would do that.ILikeBeer wrote:I hope that's all this is, because it seems an idea without any real merit to it.Lenny wrote:Ring, ring

Re: Carl Froch Return
I know that people are saying that it's odd that Froch wouldn't fight DeGale when he was his IBF mandatory, but there is absolutely no doubting that DeGale's stock has risen since he convincingly defeated Dirrell earlier this year and if he should systematically outbox Lucian Bute as I expect him to do, then there is absolutely no doubting that the guy is making a BIG name for himself in the weight division and will have conclusively proven himself as an elite fighter.
Personally, as a big Froch fan - I do think that Carl stood a good chance of successfully defending his titles against DeGale, but the more times goes by, the more I think that with DeGale in the ascendancy - Chunky should capture a points victory over Carl, especially if age does catch up with Carl and slows down even more.

As much as i'm laughing at this comment. The sad thing is he's probably not too far from the truth. DeGale is a very good boxer i dont know why he's not a ticket seller. Style of fighting isn't that boring.Lenny wrote:Ring, ring

Re: Carl Froch Return
Is Froch really hard up enough for money, that he'd take a fight that he didn't want a year ago? Especially when he's being paid by Sky to sit around and talk about boxing nowadays.domjon wrote:

And is the fight worth any more now than it was last year? Despite being champion, and an improved fighter, is DeGale any bigger a name than he was a year ago? Would the fight make any more money than it would've done shortly after Froch won in front of "80,000 people at Wembley....."
The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to agree with the above points that Froch is just trying to help Eddie promote DeGale.
Unless Froch misses the boxing limelight more than he thought he would.

'...never mind that now - literally had me chortling at my desk.'
As others have said, it's uncannily believable.
However, I can imagine Carl being tempted to come out of retirement for this, if the money was right - retirement is a struggle for fighters, the more successful, the harder it is - there's no replacement for the thrill of the fight.
I also wouldn't be surprised if he beat DeGale either. I haven't really been that impressed with DeGale, and the win over Dirrell, you have to question how much ambition Direll has, given his past performances and antics in the ring, and some of the bullshite which comes out of this mouth.
Sure, a year is a long time, but Froch is on a different level to Chunky, maybe not skills wise, but in terms of being a real fighter.
It probably is true this is a windup, but stranger things have happened.

Re: Carl Froch Return
I think he'll come back. I believe he is longing for the sport, he strikes me like that type of character. DeGale v Froch is great fight, I'd love to see it happen.

I wouldnt mind seeing the DeGale fight but i would love to see him fight in Vegas against either Golovkin or a Ward rematch,Andre dominated him but that was years ago and im still not sure how good he still is although he boxed well against Smith,i imagine Ward still outboxes Froch but i would never rule out Carl landing a bomb on Ward no matter what the scores are or how late in the fight it is

Massive, massive Froch fan and I have heard rumours of him being in talksd with Eddie of possibloe comeback fight but imho I think all 3 of these names beat him now. Though Ive certainly been wrong about Froch before.
