Carlos Balderas

USA Boxing reports that Balderas has qualified for the US Olympic team via the WSB route.
This makes no sense to me.

It says because some the other boxers who qualified originally through the WSB also qualified through the world championships so it opened a spot up. I think they just wanted to make sure a US boxer qualifies for the Olympics which hasn't been looking good under the current system of qualifying.

Carlos is avery good boxer BTW and should be at the Olympics.

No he qualified legitimately no favoritism at all. He was lucky selimov and alvarez qualified because that mean that carlos who finished like 4th or 5th in the wsb qualified

Same thing could happen with Ireland Stephen donnelly at 69kg Russia qualified to boxers and if they choose zamkovoi then donnelly will qualify as a result of finishing 3rd

So USA Boxing held three trials involving dozens of boxers, judges, officials etc and they are going to completely ignore them.
If I were Teofimo Lopez,Maliek Montgomery or Israel Mercado I would be furious.

Presumably this means World Champion Evgeni Tishcenko will miss out on the Olympics as Alexey Egorov qualified through the APB.
This would also apply to Vitaliy Dunaytsev, Elnur Akhmadaliyev Radzhan Butayev and Petr Khamutov who would miss the Olympics because other boxers from their Country have qualified through the APB or WSB.
World Champions will miss the Olympics, bizarre.

The word went out to USA boxing coaches, etc that if a boxer qualifies through the WSB or some other way before the Olympic trials, then that weight class will not be contested. I am hearing they may actually contest the wight class in the trials to have a back-up in case Carlos decides to turn pro or gets hurt, etc.

I think it will be up to those countries how they want to handle that and who they want to represent them in the Olympics if they have a choice between more than one boxer.

It's complete BS what happened. The WSB season ended months ago. Since then literally hundreds of youths, most of them from low income households, have spent thousands of dollars their families didn't have to go to trials. And now because a Cuban and Azberdjani go to Worlds on October 17th Balderas gets promoted and everything was for naught?

Complete BS in my book. Not to mention you have an international organization picking the US Olympic Team. How would you respond if the United Nations decided how much sales tax you paid in your state?

It's crazy to me. The WSB closed, Balderas was not 1 or 2, end of story. This dropping down crap isn't written down anywhere, and in fact USA Boxing was entirely ignorant of the fact that it could happen. It's just ridiculous.
