Siar Ozgul? Only on boxrec....

Does anyone know anything about unbeaten Turkish fighter Siar Ozgul from Hackney?

I'd never ask that question anywhere other than boxrec! No other forum has the same depth of (mostly useless geeky) knowledge.

Never heard of him myself but looking at his record I'd say he was a banger.

yup, watched couple fights and he seems content on back foot so not surprised at no KOs in 7 wins.

don't get me wrong, records are black and white FACT, yet they don't always tell a true story.

Example is Manchester pro Mark Thompson. 15 KOs in his 30 or so wins, yet lads in the gym* said he was incredibly heavy handed. I think he's right handed, but had always boxed southpaw meaning he was jabbing with his, stereotypically, heavier hand.

Remember him stepping up to save a sky Friday night sky show. He was training for a fight at 147 but stepped up to 154 at 3 days notice to fight tough South african Vincent Vuma (who was scheduled to fight Jamie Moore). Mark was only 12-0 with 5kos but had Vuma over twice before being overwhelmed.

*lads in the gym at the time included Jamie Moore, Martin Murray, Alex Matvienko, Amir Khan, Thomas Maurzewiz (and many other solid pros).

Going back on topic, seems Siar has a maltease liscence. Going to be a lot of pros we've never heard of on the UK scene I suspect.

You're right about records never telling the true picture, I got burned heavily on Khan-Prescott this way. Still, he's fighting at a level where you'd be expecting a puncher to be stopping people. I'll have a look at his videos, what brought him to your attention?

Fighting undefeated friend of mine on Dec 6th at York hall.
Wondered what his story was.
Why did he have to go to Malta to get his boxing license?
Any amateur background?

Gone 7-0, but has literally fought nobody.

Watched his last fight on YouTube, he beat journeyman Matt Scriven on pts over 10 rounds. Looked fit and fresh at start of 10th fair play, although Scriven let him fight the whole fight how he wanted, and more importantly let Ozgul dictate the pace. Did look tricky and hard to hit boxing on the outside, as you'd expect against someone with a 14-87 record!

Yup I was there at Robin Park when Thompson stepped up. I was a bit gutted I didn't get to see one of my favourite fighters Jamie Moore in action; sadly never got to see him fight in the flesh :(

But yeah always thought of Thompson as a puncher. Another guy who hit a lot harder than his record would suggest is old Carlos Baldomir.

Next thing Khan looks like he's been hit by a boulder.

It was actually his new coach, Jorge somebody from Cuba, whom recommended Amir fight him. It was their only fight together.

I don’t know much about him but he has a brother called Onder who was said to be a good amateur. I watched his fight with Scriven and he seemed to do the basics well. Apparently the brothers sell a shed load of tickets so they will be protected nicely. Who is your mate that is due to fight him??

Aaron Thomas in his comeback fight after few years out. Aaron is 4-0, son of former Manchester utd footballer (legend) Mickey Thomas.

Aaron was a solid prospect then got sent down for armed robbery. I think he got 6 years, was released after 3 but couldn't get BBBOC ticket back until all of the time was served. Got his liscence back after the 6 years but through the Malta commission. Said at 34 there's no point going down journeyman route, may aswel go "shit or bust" and take risks. Fair play to him as Ozgul looks a right tricky opponent from what I've seen.
