From what my father said, he was a talented guy who never quite made it. Of course it's hard to beat Liston and Bonavena when you're also working a full-time job.

He actually had some good results. Beat Henry Cooper and had a draw with Karl Mildenberger. Also beat Jefferson Davis.
There were a ton of decent heavyweights in the 1960s whom we never talk about. Johnson, Davis, Tony Alongi etc.
We spend most of our time talking about the very best fighters, which does make sense. However, the great fighters need somebody worthy to beat. And the great fighters can't fight all of the time. The B and C fighters provided some good entertainment as well.
It's funny, these kind of guys seem to be remembered by people only if they saw them. We don't seem to pay much attention to them if they came before our time.
