Most heroic get up after a knockdown?

Post by Ade L »

Having watched Ward v Gatti 1 recently I'm amazed Gatti could get up let alone continue the round in such a manner after Ward's body shot....any others? :box:

Holmes getting up after Shavers detonated a bomb on his whiskers springs to mind.

Though he got stopped almost immediately after rising, I thought it was a miracle of nature that Fernando Montiel was able to get to his feet after the knockdown against Nonito Donaire. He was convulsing on the ground trying to regain control of his muscles, the fact that he was able to stand amazes me.

All of the ones you guys have mentioned are good too

He may have gone straight back down, but Hearns deserves respect for getting up from that bomb from Iran Barkley in the first fight.

Duran getting up from an even bigger bomb from Hearns (again, just to get knocked back down again).

Razor Ruddock got himself up from a knockdown that registered on the richter scale, he nearly went through the boards when Bonecrusher floored him and got up to win.
But I struggle to remember who got slammed equally violently when he fought Tommy Morrison?

He was pretty fkin heroic getting up from the first one tbf

I was there when Young Muttley's monster left hook put Kevin Anderson on his back, close enough that i heard the thump and saw the canvas shake, back of the head hitting the deck too. Best recovery I've seen from a kd live, anyway.

I'd say getting back up from SIX knockdowns against one of the most powerful punchers ever rates some mention.

It was six knockdowns and was the fight I was alluding to my previous post.

The right uppercut that caused the second knockdown was one of the hardest punches I've ever seen, delivered by prime Foreman when he was fresh in the fight.

Very few fighters in history get up from that punch, imo.

Anyone that pushes the notion that Frazier had a weakish chin is absolutely full of it.

Ali bouncing back from Joe's hellacious hook in the FOTC and Frazier repeatedly rising from Foreman's howitzers are at the top of my list. Most heroic I witnessed in person was 1984 Olympic silver medalist and Canadian HW champ Willie de Wit getting back up after being decked for the first time by Smokin' Bert Cooper in their 1987 fight in Regina, Saskatchewan, which was televised live across North America on CBS. Didn't last long, though -- Cooper delivered a horrific coup de grace in Round 2.

If the ref hadn't stopped it, Joe would have kept fighting George until sometime last year.

I think Moore's refusal to be counted out against Durelle and get up and win, is the all time gold standard in this category.

yeah...moore against durrell

..and willard against dempsey...after that assault in the first round he lasted until the end of the round and somehow came out for two more rounds.

I agree. Not many would have gotten up from that left hook to the body Frazier landed on Quarry in their second fight. He probably should have stayed down but there is no quit in a Quarry.

The fight must have ruined him mate, quite apart from the kd he must have taken maybe 7 or 8 massive hooks that would have had most welters down or out on their feet. His chin and resilience were really astounding that night.

George Foreman -v- Ron Lyle.

Both men deserve credit to be fair, but Foreman especially so.

George was all but knocked out at one point, yet somehow he managed to get up & flatten Lyle for the count.

Amazing heroics from George.

Do you guys remember Fidel Bassa vs Dave "Boy" McCauley first war? Bassa went down a couple of times, and won later by KO.
I think the bell saved him.

Do you remember Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClellan? Even though the ref save Benn, we got to give Benn credit for the heart and guts he showed in that fight. He eventually won by KO.

How about Cassius Clay vs Henry Cooper fight #1? Clay showed courage and heart, no matter the circumstances at a young age and fighting in someone else's backyard in a hostile environment. He got up by a terrific left hook by Cooper. And a round later, he won by TKO.
