Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
It was a pretty close fight, which some people scored for Oscar. It was a HUGE fight, lots of money for everyone. Yes, there was Floyd's short lived retirement, but why not? Any theories on this?
Re: Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
Because he'd already taken what he wanted from Oscar. His star power

Because the fight wasn't nowhere near as close as you are making it out to be, Floyd won easily 8-4.keithmoonhangover wrote:It was a pretty close fight, which some people scored for Oscar. So why didn't he rematch him? Surely he thought he could win a rematch easily?Undefeated49-0 wrote:Because the fight wasn't nowhere near as close as you are making it out to be, Floyd won easily 8-4.keithmoonhangover wrote:It was a pretty close fight, which some people scored for Oscar. He proved his point against Marcos Rene Maidana and Jose Luis Castillo, but he rematched them.Undefeated49-0 wrote:He proved his point.

Re: Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
He proved his point against Pacquiao but he didn't rematch him, so what? None of that doesn't mean anything, SRL never rematched MH, Duran never rematch Tommy Hearns.keithmoonhangover wrote:He proved his point against Marcos Rene Maidana and Jose Luis Castillo, but he rematched them.Undefeated49-0 wrote:He proved his point.

A split decision against a well past his prime businessman, not his greatest victory to put it lightly.. but glad he won he earned it.

Like I said, it was a split only because Oscar was the face of boxing at the time. Watch that fight again with the sound off and see how easily Floyd made him miss and how he made him pay but I respect your opinion.

Re: Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
They single out Floyd not rematching DLH but nothing is said of Duran needing to prove far more in a rematch with Hearns or Hagler the same with SRL.

Retirement = juicing time. This time he will be ready for a comeback at 160.

DLH won that fight and beat trinidad, tooUndefeated49-0 wrote:Like I said, it was a split only because Oscar was the face of boxing at the time.
Re: Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
He and his father were at a very bad time in their relationship.
Highly probable Floyd Sr. would have been in Oscar's corner the second time,
not that it would have made any difference in the outcome of the fight, which
would probably wound up being more lopsided than the first.
But there would have been irreparable damage to the relationship between father and son...
and by extension the whole family.
That is what Floyd ran away from, not any fighter.

It's nice that on TV a place called "Fantasy Island" once existed in some folks reality as well.sucracristo wrote:DLH won that fight and beat trinidad, tooUndefeated49-0 wrote:Like I said, it was a split only because Oscar was the face of boxing at the time.

Makes sense. Probably hooked up to all kinds of IVs.
Re: Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
I scored 116-112 Mayweather, DLH's shoulder was done by the 8th round he presented no danger after that.. but it's an old, chicken leg, slower than ever version of Oscar too. Just glad the right guy got the decision, DLH clearly lost

Here we go...KC and KBB once again, rifling through their Floyd's Greatest Hits. Rehashing the same old BS.
FLOYD IS RETIRED BOYS....can't you two go and do this over in the BOXERS OF THE PAST section of this website? They created that section as an outlet for obsessed fans not handling their hero's retirement very well.

At first I was going to say I am 100% with you Caldo, but then I see you started a different thread about Floyd/Oscar? (The one about Oscar's letter to Playboy "destroying" Floyd. Maybe you need to take some of your own advice?caldo2025 wrote:Here we go...KC and KBB once again, rifling through their Floyd's Greatest Hits. Rehashing the same old BS.

Re: Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
Whew. It's getting Brutal in here. Please be advised both overrated divas are retired, and boxing will be forever better without them.
Re: Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
OP is right. Mayweather should have rematched DLH and done another 1.5 million ppv buys. If I was Mayweather's manager, I would be like "Mayweather, why the f*ck are you avoiding this? Let's do it again and make the second biggest payday of your life. This is a good move."
Re: Why Didn't Mayweather Rematch De La Hoya?
I can't speak for anyone else, but I haven't started a Mayweather thread in almost 2 months...basically since he retired.Badhusker wrote:At first I was going to say I am 100% with you Caldo, but then I see you started a different thread about Floyd/Oscar?
