Mark Breland

Any thoughts on Mark Breland? I can't help but feel despite winning two world titles his professional career was an overall let down. Maybe I just bought into the hype surrounding him.

yeah i think the hype was based on his amazing amateur record, and while he still did well he didnt turn into the monster many predicted he would, dont think breland himself ever bigged himself up it was the boxing world in general did that for him, and the mountain proved too high for him to scale but no shame there

A classic case of a fighter being rushed (although that's easy for me to say in hindsight)

He looked great against (a very weight drained) Lloyd Honeyghan but just didn't have the real inner toughness to go along with his excellent skills.

Running into one of the most under-rated fighters in history, Marlon Starling, was something he never really recovered from.

Hard to believe now, but Breland was the biggest name on the American team going into the Olympics. He never lived up to the hype, but he was a good fighter.

Maybe he didn't have the mongrel that's needed to get to the top and stay there. From all accounts Breland was a nice guy. Too nice maybe
