This article refers to the match as both a dress rehearsal and an exhibition (it's in Finnish and I only speak a little so I guess I could be off). Helenius and his coach wanted 10 oz gloves, but Musafarov wanted 16 and headgear. They're not doing head gear but they are using the bigger gloves. It also mentions Helenius has been sparring hard with Wlad and Povetkin and that Musafarov has been out for over a year due to injury which is why he wants bigger gloves.

Thank you, Punchout! It makes more sense as an exhibition glorified sparring session, with hopefully nobody trying to knock the other guy's head off, than a serious fight so close to the big one when unforseen trouble might happen.

Sparring with Wlad and Povetkin, wow, you can't do any better than that, and for Wlad he gets to practice with someon the same size as Fury.

Do u look at Helenius' Facebook page? If not, you should. It is mostly in Finnish.

I wonder what sort of injury Mustafarov had that kept him out for over a year.

Yes sir, I'm pretty active on his page. I've got some very close Finnish friends and fell in love with their culture and art. Finnish music is my favorite.

They didn't specify Musafarov's injury as far as I've seen (or can understand). I think this is an awesome plan should it go down legitimately...my only worry would be a cut or freak injury. Otherwise, it really will be a very good "dress rehearsal" for Teper.

Yeah, that's what I was worried about too, a freak injury. Let me know if you learn anything on the Finnish news, especially if you know a way to see the Saturday fight-expedition-sparring-whatever it is.

Well, it's what I was afraid of. Not a good idea. They fought what appeared to be a legitimate eight rounds. Helenius did almost nothing. I thought Mustufarov won. I'm not sure what happened afterwards though. They handed each a trophy and both hugged and seemed happy. The fight looked legit but the aftermath looked like it was an exhibition. The announcer said Helenius won, but i didn't see anybody's hand getting raised. Mustufarov was much smaller but was very slick. Helenius looked sluggish.

It was exhibition match like i said before. No injuries so all is good.

Officially Helenius won. I would have given the fight to Musafarov who was busier. Hes speed was just too much for Helenius.

I think that Helenius took the match quite lightly. He didn't throw almost any shots. If he would fight Teper like that he would get totally flattened. I still think that Helenius will fight much better against Teper. 50/50 match still.

Yes, luckily there were no cuts. Mustafarov seemed to be fighting as hard as he could, but I'm thinking now that Helenius had an agreement to not hurt the much smaller man, because, as you say, if he fights Teper like that, backing up and doing nothing in particular, Teper will bull right through him and knock him out like he did Price. The announcer seems to have been as clueless as to what was actually going on as I am.

I'd like to know what they are saying here. Helenius said in English (which is good, and his voice is now back to normal) that his condition wasn't good enough for the Mustafarov fight or sparring session or whatever it was.

Here is an article about the last year of Helenius. It includes the few easy matches he had and there is some talk about the sparring with Wlad and Musafarov. The article is in english language

It's great to have Helenius back into the HW scene.

His matchup with Teper is exciting. Could be pure fireworks. As a fan I love it.

I just wonder if his training team is right for the stage he is about to enter against Teper and afterwards.

I sure hope so, because Teper is very strong. He showed that when he barreled right through David Price and knocked him flat. This is another heavyweight fight I'm looking forward to.

Fightnews:

The highly anticipated December 19 clash between European heavyweight champion Erkan Teper (15-0, 10 KOs) and Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius (21-0, 13 KOs) at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland is off.

Teper suffered an arm injury and out of the fight. Surgery is required, so he will be out of action for some time. Helenius will instead face unbeaten German Franz Rill (11-0, 7 KOs) for the now vacant EBU title and also the IBF-Intercontinental title. The winner between Helenius and Rill will face Teper next.

I'm disappointed in that, although it might be good for Helenius to have another fight before facing Teper.

Yes! Very good. I think that Teper was too big of a jump up after so long a layoff.

Hearn wanted Teper for Joshua after the Whyte fight so expect to see Joshua vs Helenius next year if they both win on the 12th.

Helenius says that there is a live stream of his fight tomorrow on paf.com:

https://www.facebook.com/heleniusrobert ... 455340199/

Doesn't seem to be an actual website at paf.com though wonder what time it starts maybe there'll be something there then maybe...

I want to embrace Helenius but the way Chisora fought him in 2011 suggested there was plenty of work to be done.
