Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
FOTY on saturday surely??
Cant wait im absolutely buzzing for this fight, all weekends fights actually but this is the ONE,im at an amateur show this saturday so im gonna Tivo the Crolla card and i'll try watch some of that before this card starts,im not even going to drink at the show im at because im wanting to be cool for this one
Its a pick em,Cotto's been looking excellent under Freddie and is punching hard but ive still got to go with Canelo,he has the youth and size and probably power too,Miguel might have the edge in speed but its close, both guys achilles seem to be slippery boxers but neither guy is that elusive so i think the styles will gel perfectly,i think the catchweight will suit both guys so im expecting a effing great fight with bombs being landed
Alvarez KO11

Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
It's not long ago that Cotto was comfortably beaten by Trout, and since then he's been very carefully matched - Geale was dead at the weight & Martinez could barely move.
Alvarez should have the size & strength advantage, although I don't see him getting a stoppage so I predict a Canelo UD.
Whatever the outcome, it should be a terrific fight, we seem to have been waiting ages for it to finally come around!

I'm hoping Canelo gives cotto a beating for insisting on the catchweight, god even ray leonard didn't make hagler do that,it makes me sick, even if canelo agreed to it.it's still all wrong
Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
I'm a big Cotto fan and i would love him to win, he has a solid chance and should make it a competative fight but i'm 65/35 Alvarez will come out on top, probably by late KO.
Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
If Cotto can replicate the performance he gave when he bashed the head off Margarito back in 2011, then this could really be a 50/50 fight.

That was a completely shot Margarito, post severe beatings from Mosley and Pacman.Crease wrote:If Cotto can replicate the performance he gave when he bashed the head off Margarito back in 2011, then this could really be a 50/50 fight.

Outstanding match up.
The skills on offer will be fantastic. Add everything else these two supreme warriors are armed with and you have a boxing classic in the making.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
Good fight, but I think Alvarez will be too fit and too fresh. Cotto is not hard to hit and could get worn down.
Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
I'm picking Cotto, he cuts loose and throws hard shots.
Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
I can see no logical reason why this wont be an entertaining bout. But a bit of me worries about any high profile bout like this, with so much pressure and attention and potentially a lot to lose for both man, could we see unusually cautious tactics.
Look to Canelo's previous big fight, either he froze a little or chose the wrong tactics, could that happen again.
And as a previous poster pointed out, slick boxers have been an Achilles heel for both, could either man (or both) try to be that slick boxer to gain the advantage and in turn negate their own strengths and make for what could be an unnecessarily dull fight
I sincerely hope I'm not on here in a weeks time saying I told you so.....

Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
I thought Mayweather was stronger than Alvarez on the inside and that Canelo stopped trying to win and wanted just to get to the final bell without showing himself up. Cotto can be hot and cold but against someone he can hit he doesn't give up. I think Cotto will win the heavy exchanges and put Canelo on the defensive.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
It's a nice match up between two stylists, but the reality is Cotto's peak was around 8 or 9 years ago, and he should probably be retired & enjoying his money by now, plus calling this a world middleweight title is a joke; he's even insisting that Canelo come in at 155 which is out right ridiculous.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
Title only on the line for Canelo, the WBC stripped Cotto for refusing to pay sanctioning fees ie,he doesnt want to face Golovkin if he wins
Alvarez will face GGG if he wins,if not Golovkin fights Heiland for vacant belt

X2. It's a disgrace. All this catch weight bullsh1t just to engineer a fight in one fighters favour does my tits in.bigjack wrote:Boxerbeetle wrote:It's not long ago that Cotto was comfortably beaten by Trout, and since then he's been very carefully matched - Geale was dead at the weight & Martinez could barely move.

Neither is a true middleweight so no real advantage this time for Cotto. Canelo all the way for me

Just read that this is now at 160???
Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
Want Cotto to win but think Alvarez will do it. Next fight for the winner be Jacobs or Quillin before GGG cleans up the division?

I love cottos better offensive skills and the way he puts punches together in this matchup, but fear for him on account of his extra vulnerability and the way he marks uppalooka wrote:I thought Mayweather was stronger than Alvarez on the inside and that Canelo stopped trying to win and wanted just to get to the final bell without showing himself up. Those factors plus his age mean id bet on Alvarez if I had to back one man at evens

Congrats to Fr@nk W@rren and B0xNati0n for picking this up...
Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
Looking forward to this one too. I favour Cotto to score the last big win of his career on Saturday.
Alvarez has already peaked IMO and doesn't perform like the superstar he is often made out to be.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
Alvarez will better him. I can't believe how many folk believe in Cotto, he is too far by his best and his recent wins have flattered him. Just don't know if it will be a KO or points win.
Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
Easy win or Alvarez.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez
I had Alvarez winning a comfortable 116-112 and i thought it was a great fight, not much talking points but it was always absorbing,i was impressed with Cotto's ability to take Canelo's best shots and come firing back straight away,he showed great movement all night too and kept up a decent pace,Alvarez for me always looked the stronger and his shots were always more damaging and Miguel just couldnt seem to put a dent in him, even after Cotto made a good start i stll thought Canelo would get him out of there eventually so credit to Cotto
Vargas-Muira was an excellent fight and fight of the night for me,back and forth swings and plenty of action, that was first time id seen Muira and boy can he take a shot, how he never went down in the opener i'll never know and even when he got stopped the accuracy that Vargas was hitting him with was unreal and yet Takashi still kept swinging away, classic
Rigo was crap
