That was a very gutsy performance from Earl, got to take your hat off to him. He used up everything he had keeping those tactics going for 12 rounds. Inspiring stuff for sure.

I didn't think Romanov looked that rusty, those whipping shots were sharp and lethal from the off, he just got out-worked, I believe the fighter of 3 years ago would have suffered the same fate.

Cracking match, you could count the amount of clinches on one hand.

Romanov before the layoff would have stopped Earl late for sure. He almost managed it last night! A rematch is a good call if Earl can get the European title.

Cracking contest, Ramanov will come again (if he doesn't lose heart or get bogged down in politics). I still see it has him and not Earl who has the bigger chance at world level (he is still too reach his peak).

Cracking heart from earl and showed some good skills. I actually scored it a draw - but for me I am so chuffed that Earl won - he wanted it more, he prepared for this better and he showed the more heart - no to take away from Ramanov who also showed guts and a cast iron chin.

It must worry team Earl that he appears to have a groggy spell in most of his longer distance fights. I'm not trying to sound down on him, because believe me I was impressed, as I was vs Bennett - perhaps he is the new Carl Thompson. My major worry though is whether he will go through those stages against a fighter who is fitter than either Bennett and Ramanov.

Let hope he gets his EBU title fight, he deserves it after that performance.

Fight reminded me of Hatton vs Tszyu in many ways.

All credit to Earl, he deserved the win, showed a lot of guts, but Romanov seemed only 60% of the fighter I've seen in the past, he could never sustain any work and was dropping his arms as if he was tired as early as the 3rd, ...you have to wonder about how really 'fit' he was.
Earl is a good strong fighter but he is too once paced, and needs more headmovement etc... all credit to him but I still feel he will be found out in true 'world class'..... :box:

To be fair though Silkov, Steve Murray seemed to be going through some problems around the Ramanov fight he was well out of form anyway, and Vanzie and Conway didn't really apply the pressure that Earl did.

Perhaps Ramanov always had a weakness to fast paced fighters.

Earl definately fought the right fight, staying on top of Romanov and out hustling him, but at the same time Romanov was definately hurt by the lay off, he couldn't get his punches off like he did in past fights... but it was still a great win for Earl, he does seem to perform better when he's the underdog which may bode well for when he moves up further in class...

Great performance from Earl in a very tough fight. Came back from being hurt a few times and got hit with far too many right hands, but showed alot of courage. I scored it 116-115 Earl

Romanov wasn't superman before, put him in with the right guy and he'll fade down the stretch like anyone else. I give Earl full credit for his win.

Another cracking fight from SkySports. The boxing is so uplifting at the moment. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Earl was terrific from beginning to end and his will power was unquenchable. It seemed to me no matter what Romanov came up with Earl had the final word. Some British boxers have beaten far lesser opponents than Romanov and afterwards called themselves "world champions". I can't praise Earl too much for his attitude before, during and after this fight.

Richie Davies was spot in with his 116-114 tally.

For all his bluster, very few can time a test like Frank Maloney.

Yes Maloney's timing is often key and he himself has said "timing is everything", but Earl's win had everything to do with Graham's admirable work rate, skill, fitness, application to the task and tremendous guts.

Not that i'm kissing your arse today Butch or anything but i agree with your previous post. The standard of SKY fights has been so refreshing lately and not just the main events, the undercards have even been competetive most of the time and exciting too. Oh and good to see you back Manos :TU:

You're preaching to the converted, Butch! I'm one of the few who has actually retained faith in Earl even through both Vanzie fights, as well as the Burns loss.
Sure, his punch picking can be basic. Sure, he frequently get's caught napping. Sure, he really only ever looks good when his opponent sets themselves. But the one thing that no one can fault is that he's got grit and will always fight back.
I know there's a tendancy among most knowledge fans to slate this type of fighter - they can be easily outboxed, etc., but the likes of Earl, Scott Harrison and co. (all the way up the ladder), will always get my respect simply because they always come to fight (granted, if the opponent is predicted to be duff they usually need woken up).

Victor Polo wasn't that a draw? Manuel Medina - Paul Ingle's first time that was good timing, didn't Maloney get an instant rematch for Harrison against Medina that was more good management and Hasim Rahman if I am not mistaken Maloney told the British press who were in South Africa that he was very concerned about Lewis' prepartation for this fight and he wouldn't be suprised if Lewis lost.

Some other good decisions by Maloney - Elcock-Farnell, Lear-Gomez, Andy Morris-John Simpson and I'm sure there are a lot more but knowing how Frank operates I bet he would admit to the ones he got wrong as well unlike a lot of others in the business.
