Well, I'm not saying that Atlas is the reason Tyson was the great he was. Obviously Cus D'Amato was the main reason we are talking about either of those guys but I just find the "but if this didn't happen" the lowest form of communication. It's like creating your own narrative instead of basing on facts to prove one's opinion to be correct.

What if Buckner didn't let the ball go through his legs? What if they Giant's receiver didn't catch the ball off his helmet in the Super Bowl? What if Tyson didn't bite Holyfields ears off? Teddy was the trainer for, arguably, the best boxer the planet has ever seen. That happened and Atlas, as annoying as I find him to be, deserves all the credit he wants from that.

Teddy is alright.
Yes he gets emotional sometimes at the most unexpected moments.
I do to you should here me I love it ... it gets me pumped up and saying things I regret 60 seconds later.
What can you do it's part of the passion of the sport.

I certainly don't believe he knocked the 2 guys out part. But doing it himself? That sounds kinda weird. But then we have a guy running for president who swears to God he tried to hit his Mother with a hammer and he tried to stab his friend, so there are weird people out there.

Well Rooney suggests it was fake and the evidence is strong - that scar is 10 inches long. If someone slashes you in the face it is impossible as the victim will flinch back when he feels pain. There are plenty of guys I see with genuine face slashes and they a re rarely as long or as straight. One would have to hold the face in place. But according to Teddy it's all part of a wild street fight in which he ko'd 2 guys, his pal ran off, and he got slashes. Not impossible but exceptionally unlikely. The scar is so straight and avoids all dangerous areas including eyes, nose, mouth and neck. I call bullsh1t. It's too perfect a story and scar. And given his other bullsh1ts, and his willingness to be a tough guy, makes it highly unlikely.

This is an upper middle class guy who's desperate to be know as a tough guy and this story fits the narrative perfectly

Probably makes him more scary that he did it himself tbh. It takes a certain type of crazy to slash yourself to impress people!

trained boxers behave in a fight quite differently
from street thugs. they don't telegraph their punches,
are prepared to counter and know where to hit. if five
guys are fat, unexperienced and possibly drunk it is
quite possible. for the scar: no idea, but i guess doing
that to oneself can be ruled out.

apparently tim had no problem with teddy's methods
and he is the one paying. i for one have to problem
with it, it is quite an entertainment between rounds.

That was a funny clip. I think you can see in Tim's eyes that the speech had the effect that Atlas intended it to have. Teddy is a knowledgeable trainer but a horrible prognosticator.

I'm certainly no expert, but that all looked kind of silly to me.

I mean, can you think of another fighter or trainer who needs a guy just shouting aggressively at him like that in the corner? It makes Bradley look like he's not all that bright, and it looks draining, frankly. Remember after the fight Bradley answered a question with something to the effect of "I just got done fighting, I need to rest" or something like that, and I felt he was more tired from Atlas than Rios.

I'm not trying to knock Bradley, he's a hell of a fighter with a real guts and skill, and quite a good resume now. It just looks odd to me to have this guy roaring and shouting at him in the corner like this is a movie and it has to be dramatic.

But what do I know, maybe it's good for him.

i dont post a lot of comments and am not one for shall we say melodramatic speeches but i see nothing wrong with atlas little corner talk with bradley, it wasnt over the top and bradley seemed to be paying attention to what he was saying and seemed to appreciate it. also atlas' past seems pretty irrelevent in regard to this post (article)

It was very entertaining.

The only things that matter was his overall talk in the corner was very smart and Bradley was listening and concentrating like I've never seen him before.

These could be a good match for each other.
