That it's a mixed bag.
Re: "White collar" / "semi pro" back to amateur?
Yes you do get a liscence in BBU. You can't fight on a BBU show without one. Cost for one is minimal, about £50.thechump wrote:Can someone come on here and show me a license for a boxer who is licensed to fight on bbu then please? I know fighters who fight on these shows for bbu titles but they dont need a license, they dont even get drug checked so to me they are unlicensed until im proved wrong,i can go to my lical gym and train to fight on these shows no license needed,i cant do it for a pro fight or amatuer, just cause they get paid doesnt mean they are pro. Amir khan repoertedly got paid 70 G's a year to stay amateur in 2004 does this mean he is pro cause he got paid
Most pros don't get drug checked! Infact almost none.
Re: "White collar" / "semi pro" back to amateur?
Rules are (or were) at least 4 fights (Am or BBU) to qualify for BBU area title, area before brit. But don't know if that's still case.maley1984 wrote:My mate fought for the bbu british title in his first fight.Wales wrote:No, to my knowledge BBU don't have mandatory brain scans. Shows must have medics ringside (same medics as the pro shows use are the ones at Welsh BBU shows) and fighters must have "full medicals" 24 hours before every fight. Pete, and the guys that promote for him, stress this isn't unliscenced boxing, it simply isn't liscensed by BBBOC.
Where it falls down is when you see a BBU Boxing belt contested in a cage (not a ring) or 2 fighters who are, for example, 8kg apart, fighting.

Thechump is struggling to understand the true meaning of the word professional, it's as simple as that.

Im not to sure regards the rules but my mate deffo did. We were talking about it the other day.

Unlicensed by the BBBC. Doesn't mean it's any less legal or licensed than theirs.thechump wrote:I know the meaning of professional im sayin there isnt such thing as semi pro in boxing and it really is as simple as that. ther is unlicensed but not semi promickey1975 wrote:Thechump is struggling to understand the true meaning of the word professional, it's as simple as that.
Re: "White collar" / "semi pro" back to amateur?
Mickey iv asked anyone who is licensed by any of these so called "semi-pro" organisations to show their license,i havent mentioned the bbbofc im saying show me the license then ill agree with the term of licensed boxing,im not arguing with anyone im just puttin my opinion across that if there is no license then its "unlicensed" is it not? Its a simple thing, some show the license. But i still stand by ther is no such thing as semi-promickey1975 wrote:Thechump is struggling to understand the true meaning of the word professional, it's as simple as that.

Did he have am experience or step out of gym, having never fought before, into BBU brit title fight? (Not a trick question btw I don't know)
Re: "White collar" / "semi pro" back to amateur?
No, my word isn't gospel with regards to BBU lads being licensed to BBU and also "having a licence". So I cant "show you one"thechump wrote:Oh so thats it then wales says they have a license so they defo doWales wrote:Yes you do get a liscence in BBU. You can't fight on a BBU show without one. Most pros don't get drug checked! Infact almost none.....thats not proof is it? Show me the license and ill believe u until then they dont have one and dont need one to box,i know this because iv been asked to fight on one and i havent got a bbu, wwe, bbc, itv, bskyb, nba or what other joke initial promotion thet come up with,if its not a recognised professional or amateur organisation then its unlicensed its as simple as that.
However, you're coming over as believing boxers get a little card from BBBOC like a drivers licence that they show...
Re: "White collar" / "semi pro" back to amateur?
So all BBU, or whoever, need to do is print bits of paper or plastic cards and "thechump" will recognise them as Licenced ?thechump wrote:Mickey iv asked anyone who is licensed by any of these so called "semi-pro" organisations to show their license,i havent mentioned the bbbofc im saying show me the license then ill agree with the term of licensed boxing,im not arguing with anyone im just puttin my opinion across that if there is no license then its "unlicensed" is it not? Fair comment.thechump wrote:But i still stand by ther is no such thing as semi-pro
How do you class the following then, which are amateur and which are pro. Assume none are semi pro.
a) Fighter at world level that earns 250k+ a year. Does nothing but relax, train and fight.
b) Fighter that appears on sky, earns say 50-80k a year fighting at brit / euro level
c) fighter that has promoter and earns couple k a fight in "small hall shows" but also has full time job that he works around training. Be it anything from personal trainer to postman?
d) fighter that loses without getting KOd week in week out, doesn't train, gets paid £800 per fight and has job doing whatever
E) fighter that doesn't work, gets paid 60-80k a year to be in GB squad or WSB squad
f) fighter that has full time job but fights for £300 a fight in BBU (or equivalent)
G) fighter that gets no pay at all
H) fighter that gets £500 a year sponsorship but that's it

He had a few but not many am fights around 10 . U said u needed 4 am or bbu to qualify for a area title. He went straight in to a bbu brit title fight.

Correct
Re: "White collar" / "semi pro" back to amateur?
Pay doesnt come into it,i mentioned money on an earlier post because someone posted to me that they get paid so they are pro so i replies with amir khan in 2004 got a reported 70k a year to stay amateur so pay doesnt make u pro. Answer to your question is to be classed as pro you fight on pro shows regardless of how big or small but bbu isnt pro or amateur its unlicensed cause they dont have a license, when i was amateur i had an amateur card and ppl i know who are pro are ranked on boxrec,is ur friend who is boxing on these bbu shows??? Thought not so he is unlicensedWales wrote:Fair comment.thechump wrote:But i still stand by ther is no such thing as semi-pro
