Love to see sky trying to charge £15 for a fa cup 4th round tie.

I've just remembered something which always pissed me off with Smith, when Ricky Hatton mania was in full swing he always called Kostya Tszyu "Kostyat Tszyu" there is no reason for professional sports commentators/reporters to make such an ignorant error on a constant basis.

I don't mind Adam Smith commentating - what I don't really think is needed is the amount of pundits/commentators on Sky. In situations like tonight - this is fine due to it being on two locations. However, usually it is Hawling and Watt on the main fights in the UK, with Ed doing the interviews..... but then for the fillers at the end of a telecast they usually bring out Smith and one of the pundits (such as Glenn, Jamie Moore etc) - and I do think why? I'm sure Jim/Hawling don't charge per fight. Why not Smith and Watt for all UK fights, and save some of the production money on getting better fights.

Meanwhile actual punches were being thrown without any kind of interest or comment from Smith. We had to rely on dear old Glen to wade in with the occasional "and a good sequence of punches from Crolla there finishing with the uppercut"

At the end of every round Smith would wake up himself from his oscar winning documentary voiceover and say something like "close round - did Perez just shade it? " then back for more of his jizz.

Thank God for that bodyshot - Smith could have a an immediate orgasm and roll out the cheese cliches without any distraction of any action to describe and it meant that I fell just short of throwing my shoe through the tv.

He completely copied his style from Ian Darke, with the crucial difference that Darke can actually read a fight and has his own opinion. I miss having him commentating on boxing.

On Ringside about a year ago, he mentioned about how watching the 'Fan-man' incident (Holyfield-Bowe 2) got him into Boxing.

He was there , working. He's been around a long time.

I'm aware of that, but according to him - that incident really got him hooked on Boxing. The fact he was already working in the sport makes this admission even more damning in my opinion.

I cant beleive he said that about fan man as i remember clear as day when smith started commenting,mentioning he stayed up all night at to watch hagler-leonard.

He is an example of being very lucky to get a job in tv,having the right background,but he is a good decent man,he worked hard and took the opportunities he got,and he has helped a lot of fighters gwt work on tv.over his tenure ,cards are better much better.

I did say years ago on this programme the whole ringside set was naff with the stools.as an interviewer he doesnt ask any hard questions but hey he cant be perfect.i think hes a good guy

I can't think of another sport in sky or on any network where the head of department/exec producer is a commentator, presenter, and making decisions and managing a team and its output. Seems a strange case to me.

I agree, boxing is a racket in the UK, too few people making big decisions that affect the sport as a whole in the country. I can't think of many other sports where so few people wield such power over a whole sport.

It was another event that secured my entry into Sky though - the event that catapulted me into boxing. At my first interview with Head of Sports Vic Wakeling, I was asked what had really drawn me to the sport. The answer I gave, about the time when I became utterly fascinated by it, was 'the night of the Fan Man'.

Agree with this but I don't think he's alone, that John Rawlings on allegedly does this a lot as well although not a bad as Smith.

I'm not sure if its Andy Clarke? Who did the Daws fight on channel 5 last week? He was pretty decent, clearly knows his current stuff and wasn't going off on one too much stuck to what was happening in the ring.The fella on Eurosport Tim Caple is good as well as rather than go off on one he just lets the expert break it down and it works well.

The C5 commentator was Dave Farrar. Mostly does football

For me the worst commentator is Jim Neilly, Smith would be the next worst but Neilly is far worse.
