Weeks got Vargas the win

Weeks not giving the standing 8 when Miuras glove hit the canvas cost Miura plenty, there needs to be a rematch

I thought it was a bad stoppage at first but when you see it in replay Miura looked seriously hurt. I'd rather the fighter be protected to fight another day than end up in a coma after the fight.

Agreed but when his glove hit the canvas that should have been a standing 8 count, weeks let the fight continue, that's when miura copped the worst punishment

Honestly it was very hard to tell if he did touch or not Miura was all over the place.

He propped himself up on it, he would have fallen face first on the canvas if not for the glove touch, easily seen

Whenever I might have questions about a stoppage one of the things I do is look at the reaction of the fighter and his corner. I figure they know better than I.

I saw no complaints

Aside from the standing 8 that Weeks missed, I think Miura should have been given just a BIT more time by Weeks before stopping it. It was very close to being perfect timing for Weeks but he did call it a few punches too soon in my opinion. But heck, I'd hate to have a kids fate in my hands so i'm sure it's a tough call to make in there. Weeks is getting a little RichardSteelish the last couple years with these early stoppages.

I can't understand why boxers continually refuse to take the full recovery time allowed during a knockdown though. If Miura takes a knee and gets up at 9 instead of jumping up after a second on the canvas, he has a better shot of getting through the round. You would think that would be a lesson learned early on in a career.

This was a fight of the year contender.
Great stoppage from Weeks. Miura was out on his feet and getting serious punishment. He showed fantastic chin and heart to stay on his feet and needed saving from himself.
There needs to be a rematch. These two fighters gel fantastically well. Both heavy handed, solid chinned and vulnerable fighters.
I predict a rematch will also be a cracker. The only winners in this fight was the boxing public. It's a fight that unfortunately cuts a few years of a pugilists career.

I see Vargas having an easier time in a rematch he owned Miura in that first rd but once his eye got busted up his plan when out thr window it affected him big time.

The last couple of rounds were mad. early it looked like Vargas might take over but Miura backed him up.
Quality bout.

Props to both guys what a fight. Looking at the toughness of both fighters of he was allowed to continue there is every chance he could of scored his own KO.
