Lee isn't. He is from Eire.

Lee was born in London though. He would have eligible to fight for the British title.

I don't like these many WBA champions, but surely Jamie McDonnell has done enough to call himself a current true world champion?

Pity the poor fans who travelled a long way to see Haskins and a world title fight. There seems scant regard for them.

5 and a half pounds?

Wtf is that about? I think I'd struggle to put that amount of weight on if I'd been on the Guinness for a night and finished with a kebab and full fry in the morning.

Well done to team haskins for refusing the fight and getting the title

I'm not sure, GBP show and their man screwed up massively.

Would like to know though.
He never got paid.

I hope he got at least generous travel expenses.
I guess if he had taken the fight he would have had a hefty cut of the champs purse.

True world champion.......surely to call yourself that you have to be the consensus recognised top dog in your division, the man who beat the man or cleaned everybody else out.....?

I wouldn't even class McDonnell as a major beltholder, to be frank. Throughout his reign there has been somebody above him on the WBA's ridiculous food chain. I guess it's subjective but I draw the line with the major sanctioning bodies' top-tier titlists!

Without doubt, though, he's one of the best bantamweights in the world - let's hope he can fight more of the other top guys (Haskins included).

Actually he is a true Cockney, born in Bow, London. Maybe Irish parents. Joe Calzaghe is another Londoner born in Shepherds Bush.

Are you sure about Maskaev? I thought the fight was for the sanctioned title...
