I thought it was a bs stoppage myself but I think the ref had to protect Miura from himself because it looked like his corner wasn't going to. Miura is too brave for his own good.

I thought it was a bit premature. If it was going to be stopped, it should have been earlier. It looked as if Miura was just getting his wits back when it was stopped.

But yes, FOTY candidate for sure.

Miura was far from being helplesss. He shouldn't be losing his championship to some crooked LV referee.

He was taking far too many clean head shots right up until the stoppage and he had stopped firing back. It was a bit quick yes, but I can live with it if the fighter is spared ending up in a coma.

True, however, it was beginning to remind me of Mancini v Kim.

Those claiming bs stoppage really need help.

Miura was a dead man gone on his feet.

What do you wanna see the guy carried out in a stretcher?

Not true. He got in a shot that buckled Vargas' knees. They showed it in the replay. He could have turned it around all over again as hard as he hits and as bashed up was Vargas' face and he deserved the chance to do so.

I was thinking the same, given Vargas was in danger of punching himself out on that cement gourde, but I can't fault the stoppage.

better for miura to live to fight another day.
he was hurt and the ref stepped in when vargas had the high ground and was about to tee off.
there is a tendency to give tough guys more chances, but that is when the incidents occur.
that is what the ref is there for. it's a safety thing

Miura made me a fan but he was done.

Vargas willed through and his superior skill and combination punching got him that win.

big win for Vargas hope he gets more spotlight now the guy is s beast

Fourth best fight the division has seen this year. Nakamura vs Kaneko and the two Salido/Martinez fights were better imo.

Great fight.

Good stoppage Miura needed saving from himself. He was gone and looked a couple of punches away from being seriously hurt.

Would love to see a rematch. They have a style that gels.

This was a fight that takes years of careers.

Miura has that face first style of defense that all boxing fans love.

:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

What a way to follow that Rigo disgrace!!

FOTY..............had it all.
Fighter hurt right away, somehow survives, great two way action, brutal knockdown in round four, great two way action, Vargas clearly hurt at end of round eight, cut, swelling on verge of losing via doctor stoppage, comes back and scores a come from behind KO.

Everybody in my living room was going crazy, it was great.

Nothing wrong with the stoppage for me,i know Muira was still swinging but it was all instinct and he never knew what he was even swinging at,sometimes fighters need to be save from themselves to fight another day,no doubt if there was no ref or bell Muira would still be standing there wailing away right this minute, his ballz reminded me of Arakawa's against Figueroa, unreal durability

Credit goes to Vargas too who had to come back from a hurtful KD himself, but yeah if anyone says fight of the year im not gonna argue with that too hard

Absolute fvcking war. Miura has cement in his fists & he has an almost comical lack of concern for whatever is coming back for him. Vargas fought very smartly & very bravely, but you could see sometimes he was just thinking "WTF, man! I just nailed the living fvck out of you, how are you still here?"

Great fight. Appropriate stoppage. Would love to see a rematch, if they are getting huge amounts of money to pay for the hospital bills.

Awesome post, sorry, cross-posted.

Did I mention in the run-up that Miura has a hammer for a left hand? The boy can do nothing but hit, & wants nothing but to do it as hard as he can & as often as possible.
