Scoring

Post by SFW »

Those scorecards were criminally wrong, that fight was close. So I'd like to know what in the world people who scored that wide for Canelo were watching, or did they already have their cards filled out beforehand like the 3 blind mice did. Have to say that was not an accurate decision. Even in Mexico there are newspapers saying Cotto was robbed. Look it up. I don't care much bout either guy but a lie is a lie.

The scores were way out of line though the correct boxer got the W.

I really cannot see how Cotto could have been rationalized the victor. I think 117-111 Canelo and a draw are the rational outer fringe parameters in that fight.

Cotto acquitted himself very well, other than his failure to give an interview after the fight.

Dave Moretti was involved, what do you expect? His card was... 11-1. Maybe he prefers harder, thudding punches to accurate combos, but then his card giving Mayweather the decision over Maidana 1, when he got his ass whipped, would make no sense.

There's only 1 conclusion and everyone knows it, fights get scored for "the guy". Period.

The scores weren't exactly accurate but I guess I can see where some decided to give the close rounds to Canelo instead of Cotto, Moretti made the absolute correct call in all of Floyd's fights so I don't understand why he got this one so wrong.

That's a good assessment. Those rounds weren't exactly clear cut.

Cotto thinks he should have won 8-4. I could see it more like 8-4 or possibly even 7-5 Canelo. To me Canelo won, and it wasn't controversial. I agree the judges had it way too wide...even DLH mentioned that. For some reason Canelo does get the judges on his side. I think back in the Floyd fight he was basically shut out and how poor the scoring was, especially the draw. Time for either new judges or increase it to 5 instead of 3 at least for championship fights.
