Way back in my senior year of HS 225 was exactly 50lbs above my body weight and if you could bench 1 set of 10 reps at 50lbs + you body weight you got your name immortalized and put on the Gold Star wall. I remember warming up with a set of 5 and on the 10th rep of my attempt the guy spotting me thought the bar started to move in the wrong direction and instead of spotting me and being ready to grab the bar he got a bit too close and barely and I really mean "barely" touched it. Weight coach was a stickler so he said my attempt didn't count. I came back 15min later and did a full set of 10 reps. So for me to get my damn name on that wall I ended up doing 15reps (not in same set tho) of 225lbs...keep in mind I only weighted 165lbs (and am 5'10"). The following year while a freshman at UCLA I was living with a couple of starters on the football team (both went pro...1 was a ProBaller and 2nd pick in the draft and the other has multiple SuperBowl rings and was the 36th pick in the draft...both DBs and I think i may have been the last time the Bruins were actually ranked #1 nationally). I ended up working out with them a lot of the time and when I wasn't I would do some type of cardio. That year I was much stronger and although I didn't attempt a 1 set max rep at 225lbs I was putting up 285lbs (more than 1 rep...I don't think I ever did 3..might have, but I'll go on the record with 2 reps) and was was actually throwing down when I played basketball (but then again, in HS my PR in high jump was 6'1.5"). I continued working out and 18 months later (while working at a health club) I was the strongest I ever was (and have ever been)...3.5% body fat and 215lbs (standing 5' 10"). Seems like that was a completely different life and person. Good memories though. Thanks for reminding me of those days and listening to me pull a proverbial "Al Bundy". LOL!

Im 40 weigh 157 ilbs (11stone 3) and regularly do top sets on 100kg x 15 -17 reps.
I dont go higher anymore. Have seen 3 torn pecs in the gym by younger guys.
The most i ever did a single on was 142.5 kg but i weighed 168 ilbs than and was 6 years younger.
