Those press conferences were the best I've seen in ages. They were all at it, it was the first time I've seen Eddie Hearn having to defend himself. There were no theatrics, just genuine needle.

Hotel prices all triple the standard price for a saturday night. Wasn't sure if i was going to go but said i'll try and get my bro a ticket for his 30th. Going to cost me a fair bit more than i expected!
Re: Carl Frampton (IBF) vs. Scott Quigg (WBA) - February 27th 2016
Just got around to watching these clips. Thoroughly entertaining affair from both sides. Quigg will never have smooth articulation like Frampton but those who claim they can't understand him need to get out in the world a bit more.
The case being made for an early Quigg win wasn't overly convincing, but I will be rooting for him if for no other reason than McGuigan Snr having come across as an arrogant cretin too many times for my liking.

A playwright? A playwright is a writer, nothing at all to do with public speaking.J wrote:cocka09 wrote:Just back from the press conference. It causes me physical pain every time I see Quigg chew up a sentence.

Why are people getting on about the way someone talks. It's all irrelevant when they lace up the gloves and climb through the ropes. No one will care how he talks when the leather is flying. My own view is that it will be a real barn burner and won't go the distance. I want quigg to win, but really struggle to see anything other than a genuine 50/50 fight. Both fighters have some great qualities, and I really hope that this won't mean them cancelling each other out. It's a fight that many people have looked forward to for a long time, and just for a change has actually been made. Let's celebrate the fact that the fight is on and will hopefully be a great one rather than concentrating on a fighter who might have a genuine speech impediment as to my mind it has zero relevance.cocka09 wrote:A playwright? ok a bloody MC then pedant, I was alluding to the grasp of the English Language that playwrights (corrected spelling doh!) are renowned, Pinter, Shakespeare, Miller, Tenessee Williams, Samuel Becket, Noel Coward, Tom Stoppard, Alan Bennett and of Oscar Wilde et al.
Which are the performed via frikkin public speaking- ie on the stage....
the link isn't that tenuous to make for anyone with an education.
POINT BEING WHO REALLY CARES IF HE ISNT THE MOST ARTICULATE OF PEOPLE, HE IS A GOOD FIGHTER.
Want beautiful English go see a play by the aforementioned. Might do you good

Anyone with an education would also know how to spell 'Playwright' - maybe it would do you some good to go see a play or pick up a book by the aforementioned.ILikeBeer wrote:I'll think you'll find that you got owned.J wrote:ok a bloody MC then pedant, I was alluding to the grasp of the English Language that playwrights (corrected spelling doh!) are renowned, Pinter, Shakespeare, Miller, Tenessee Williams, Samuel Becket et al.

Point being - boxing is the entertainment business and talking to sell the fight is a massive part of it! Ali is loved by people because of his boxing skills mixed with the fact that he was a great orator! There is a reason that Scott Quigg doesn't have much of a fan base and it is because he cannot sell himself or his fights!

How he talks means nothing. It's a boxing match. Being able to talk better in public won't mean eff all if Frampton gets knocked out.
If public speaking was a necessary requirement to be a good boxer then David Cameron would champion of the world.

Theres other ways to gain popularity. Tyson for example was hardly a chatterbox yet nobody was more popular in the sport.cocka09 wrote:Anyone with an education would also know how to spell 'Playwright' - maybe it would do you some good to go see a play or pick up a book by the aforementioned.ILikeBeer wrote:I'll think you'll find that you got owned.J wrote:ok a bloody MC then pedant, I was alluding to the grasp of the English Language that playwrights (corrected spelling doh!) are renowned, Pinter, Shakespeare, Miller, Tenessee Williams, Samuel Becket et al.

I suspect Quigg and plenty of other fighters don't really care for what goes on outside the ring. They are in it for sporting achievement. That outranks popularity imo. Of course he could adopt a fake persona similar to what Connor McGregor and Floyd have done to attract a certain amount of 'teenybopper' types, but maybe he just prefers to be himself?

I never ever believe former opponents. That's probably just Kiko's way of making himself feel better about getting ko'd in 2 by Quigg - he can put it down to a lucky punch.
Re: Carl Frampton (IBF) vs. Scott Quigg (WBA) - February 27th 2016
Im a Frampton fan but Kiko is wrong to say that Frampton doesnt have any weaknesses. Frampton looked really poor at times in his last fight and Quigg will be in super shape for this fight.
I hope Frampton wins.
And i cannot bare to listen to Quigg talk, it is painfull. Inarticulate is a polite way of putting it. But nonetheless he is a tidy fighter and looked great in destroying Martinez.

Personally I like hearing Quigg talk. If he loses the Frampton fight, I'd like him to take up narrating audio books.
Re: Carl Frampton (IBF) vs. Scott Quigg (WBA) - February 27th 2016
He said it was a great punch, but Frampton hit him harder. They both walked Martinez onto a big shot as he came forward, Frampton's put him down and when he got up he staggered backwards and had to be held up by the ropes, Quigg hurt him, then had to follow up with a load more to put him down, he got up, another flurry put him down again before he was stopped on his feet by Terry O'Connor. It isn't unreasonable to say that Frampton's the bigger puncher.Boxerbeetle wrote:I never ever believe former opponents. Looking back it was a poor stoppage from O'Connor too, Martinez gets up and he just waves it off without looking at him, didn't ask him to walk forward or anything, don't know why he bothered with the count, clearly had already decided to stop it. Kiko may well have been done, but he should have at least taken a proper look at him before calling it off.
