Which was the best losing-end boxing performance ever in your view. I haven't make a poll because there are way too many to choose.
I will say Billy Conn LTK13 Joe Louis (Fight #1)

Johnny Owen against Pintor.
I agree with Mcdonnel against Azumah Nelson, underrated performance I think. Paul Ingle against Naz is one of my favourites.
Scott Ledoux against Larry Holmes has become something of a legend in its own right, for different reasons though.
I would include Witherspoon's effort against Larry in this thread.

........was such a great 'losing' end performance that the loser probably deserved to win more than the 'winner' did.yancey wrote:Patterson against Ellis.

Maybe the judges didn't want Floyd Patterson to be heavyweight champion for the third time.witherspoon wrote:........was such a great 'losing' end performance that the loser probably deserved to win more than the 'winner' did.yancey wrote:Patterson against Ellis.

There were no judges, iirc.
Harold Valan, the referee and a good friend of Angelo Dundee, was the sole decider.

I didn't like the decision at the time, but I am glad that Patterson didn't fight Frazier, which he probably would have if Floyd got the nod against Ellis.
I wish that Ellis didn't fight Frazier.

I would say Froch groves first.groves was treated like the winner floored froch and threw everything at him after that.

Re: Losing-End Greatest Performances
Even though the great Thomas Hearns lost the two biggest fights of his career in 80s, boy!, he gave two performances of the ages!
Has there been a fighter that has lost two great bouts of that magnitude in my lifetime? I don't know. It's hard to think of one.
