David "The Savior" Haye vs Mark "Don't Call My Record Padded" de Mori

Post by crusader »

I've seen rumors that this is happening and it's on the BoxRec schedule.

If the rumors are true we should all be thankful Haye is returning against such a proven opponent. How did boxing get on without its savior? He'll smash that boring Borat I tells ya.

Three and a half years out, you know full well why he's fighting such an apponent, don't act naive.

I don't see anything about my post that suggests ignorance of why he'd fight such an opponent. I understand that not everyone is like Vitali Klitschko and is up to fighting a top 10 opponent after being inactive for multiple years. I do think that de Mori is a particularly weak foe though, and incidentally I wonder how many other fighters have been ranked outside BoxRec's top 100 with 30-1 records.

Thanks for the orders though boss :TU:

Mark's a great guy in real life. I'll be going for him for that reason alone. Haye is the much better boxer (obviously).

The one X-factor is the Mark has REALLY good body work. I doubt very much he has the speed or technique to catch Haye with anything serious upstairs, but he can find the body and his shots are pretty tight. If Haye is out of shape and carrying a lot of rust he could be in for a big surprise...

Totally. Except it isn't for a world title, David Haye has beaten several heavyweights who were at least top 20 at the time, Haye held the world title in a different division beating the recognised #1 & then the guy who was at worst #3 (just like Wilder! No, hang on, wait...), & Haye is coming back after many years out of the ring & crippling injuries. So, exactly like Wilder, then.

Also, Mark De Mori (unlike, say, Duhaupas) has never beaten a top 250 opponent, De Mori's already been stopped by a tomato can (again, unlike Duhaupas), De Mori is a short come-forward short-armed face-first slugger & has a reputation as a puncher (again, all completely unlike Duhaupas).

Do you perhaps mean "It's a white dude versus a black dude, at heavyweight, & I don't expect the white dude to win?"

I mean, judging from your previous incisive pronouncements, this is the level of analysis one can expect from you, but I fear--having suffered through reading some of the shite that you post before-- even this observation is too detailed & nuanced for you.

Both are bums compared to the top and Haye has always been very selective about his opponends and as soon as he doubted he canceled the fight or things like that. He gained most of the respect he earned in a lower weightclass.
In his heavyweight carreer he only won against an old man that had pain in pretty much all of his bones at that time and in fact David didn't even deserve the win at all. Unlike Evander Holyfield in the fight before, who didn't get the win while he did deserve it.
I don't really care about someones skincolour, I mentioned the Wilder - Duhaupas fight because Duhaupas also has barely any loses on his record because he only fought guys nobody has ever heard from. Because of that he got a very good record at first sight because he got like 30+ fights and only one loss.

Really, put David's heavyweight performance in numbers:
Monte Barrett, barely a heavyweight himself, only won 1 out of his next 7 matches and even in that match he got KOed, but managed to stand back up again and win on points.
John Ruiz, a 38 year old that retired immedietly after
Audley Harrison, lol, who even got KOed by David Price in the first round later on.
Dereck Chisora, who lost his two matches before and before that luckely won on points against a 18 win, 43 losing cruiserweight that currently has a 20 win 61 losing rate...
Sorry mate, I know some people still think he's something special, but he really isn't, not even close. In fact Mark is a far better opponend as I expected him to take.

My previous comments aside, it will be interesting to see what Haye's got left when he fights a decent opponent. At his peak he was a very good fighter but I'm not sure where he's at now.

A fight is always better than no fight.

I am suspicious of Haye and don't pay much attention to his talk. I'll rate him when I see him in the ring, till there he remains retired.

Having said that, I'm Ok with this matchup for now. January is just around the corner, so it could set up a nice year of 2016 for the HW scene in the UK.

I've always said I'm a Haye fan so forgive me for bias.
The problem with 'they're bums compared to the top' - is that the HW scene is still abysmal and Haye, if he ever fights, is still about as good as there is IMO.
Haye didn't turn up against Klitschko but hardly looked like he was a bum in comparison to an almost equally uninspiring performance from Wlad - it was more a case that Wlad was just less gun-shy than Haye.
Other than that, who exactly is Haye 'worlds away from'?

Mark de Mori has been handpicked as the worst guy with a ranking, and a record, which unless scrutinized, looks good on paper at 30-1-1.

The reality is de Mori is totally unprepared for a big fight against a quality opponent. He is literally trying to jump from the little league to the Olympics, and it's about now he will be wishing he hadn't wasted so many years fighting nobodies in empty gyms. Even one or two more challenging opponents along the way might have had him better prepared.

On the plus side for de Mori, if you were going to fight David Haye, you would certainly want him first up after a three and a half year break, and that's exactly why Haye has chosen de Mori.

The fact you're critical of the opponent suggests it greatly, at least to me. David Haye is a nothing heavyweight as things stand, he's clearly picked de Mori cynically but three and a half years out is fair enough to me. This is a lets see how things are fight, nothing more nothing less. To expect David Haye, this is David Haye after all, to go after a top level heavy (a funny term these days I know) is odd to me.

I don't see the connection you're making between me being critical of de Mori and my supposedly feigned ignorance of why he was chosen. I realise that Haye has been out a while and I'm sure he wants a soft touch to blowout in his return, yet understanding why de Mori was chosen in no way precludes one from being critical of that choice.

Likewise, I know why many prospects are repeatedly put in with weak opponents who don't pose any threat, but that doesn't prevent me from offering criticism of such a practice.

That wasn't exactly his choice. The deal with King derailed his career to the point where he wanted to quit boxing.

Maybe it was a bad angle or a bad hair day, but in the photo I saw of Haye a couple of months ago he looked old and overweight and decrepid. He looked like a street bum. Are there any current photos or videos of him?

de Mori chose to sign with King years ago and then when his contract with King expired he chose to sign with King again!

King hasn't been de Mori's only promoter/manager over his 15 year career. He has had many. So the blame for his padded career record can't all be laid on King.

He was a random from Oz, of course he's going to sign with Don King. Don promised him more the second time around and Mark fell for it. Trust me, he's wanted to be in with better. Exactly what level of guys he wants to fight I don't know, but he wanted to walk away from the sport during and right after his time with King.

We've heard it all before from Mark. More promises of big fights than you could poke a bloody stick at and then he turns around and repeatedly fights guys with half a dozen fights to their name. Or guys so far past it they shouldn't even be in the ring.
