Canelo Alvarez vs Prime Sergio Martinez

Post by Aaronide_ger »

Who wins at 160? I believe Canelo at 160 will be A LOT more healthier and his stamina issues will disappear, he wasnt very active against Cotto and he was breathing VERY heavily in the last round. At 160 I believe Canelo gives Sergio all he could handle, but in the end loses a 7-5 UD.

At least this version of Canelo who is still 25 years old, maybe he is still not in his prime.

as much as people want to make cotto's win over martinez all about martinez being
shot, if you take the same cotto from that fight and put him in against the martinez
from his previous fight against chavez jr, you would get the same outcome.
any version of cotto would be competitive with any version of martinez.
i would pick canelo over any version of martinez, especially with the judging.

Martinez, easy decision. In his prime he was the exact sort of guy who would give Canelo hell. Fast, accurate, athletic boxer/mover.

can you isolate the quote that says that in what you just responded to?
what did i say exactly, mr "cotto can't fight backing up and is going to get
steamrolled by canelo and if you don't agree you know zero about boxing"
boxing analyst? (and can you imagine degale trying to find dirrel? impossible!)

btw, martinez also lost to williams, and williams lost to quintana after cotto mauled
him in 5, so go back to what i said EXACTLY about cotto and martinez..

Like Lara, Martinez would show Canelo's limitations, except Sergio would land much more.

No the beast that fought Williams in the first fight that ppl thought sergio won.

The beast that destroyed Paul Williams in 2.

The beast that annihilated Dzinzurak

The beast that whooped pavlik.

That beast.

Though i do love how you made no mention of how close the first paul williams fight was as to discredit Martinez.

Martinez was great at winning rounds with punch output, I feel Canelo would be too sharp and mythatical for Martinez and beat him down the stretch. canelo is a much more schooled figter than williams or Pavlik and don't see Martinez getting away with a lot of things he did with those guys. I also agree with sucrqcristo, any version of Martinez would have Struggled against any version of Cotto style wise and don't thing any version of Martinez beats Alvarez.

Williams would have outworked Canelo at Light Middle and Middle.

Martinez would have outboxed Canelo at Light Middle and Middle.

Pavlik hit a lot harder than Canelo but this fight could have gone either way.

I'd also pick prime Jermaine Taylor to beat Canelo at 160.

Still not totally convinced on Canelo. Yeah he is a great combination puncher with good upper body reflexes, but hes too flat footed, not busy enough over the course of a fight with stamina problems. With fair judges primer Martinez wins by comftable UD.

This.

I can't believe anyone who sat through Martinez giving hell to two six-foot plus l̶i̶g̶h̶t̶-̶h̶e̶a̶v̶i̶e̶s̶ er, I mean, modern middleweights such as Williams & Pavlik & watched the meal Ginge made out of Lara (probably technically better than Martinez but not as quick or powerful or strong or brave) could possibly believe that Alvarez would ever pull the trigger. He'd plod along after Martinez, looking increasingly bewildered.

He might've put Sergio down--Martinez's balance & footwork was dreadful--but would've lost near enough every other round.

As Canelo continues to improve my opinion will probably change.

But right now, a prime Martinez easily boxes his ears off.

Think the Lara/Canelo fight except Sergio sits down on way more punches than Lara,
winning the power shot battle as well.

:TU:

It is forgotten that Williams only fought Sergio because people like Cotto was afraid of him. He did call out Cotto immediately after beating Margarito.

The same Williams who beat Margarito with the handwraps.

The same Williams Cotto wouldn't even fight.

More than likely the footwork and handspeed of a prime Martinez would've overwhelmed Canelo and although he might not have scored a KO I'm certain that he would've boxed circles around him the entire fight winning an easy UD.

So many people picking Martinez by decision.
Does anyone actually think the judges would allow this? If there is any doubt in the round
Canelo will get the nod by the judges.

Well then how do you win if it goes to the score cards if not for the judges decision?
I can say that a person I thought won had a moral victory but the judges decision is final no matter what you or I think.

Oh I'm sorry I wasnt aware I was so wrong about Cotto-Canelo and you were soooo right.

119-109
117-111
118-110

I picked Canelo to win by wide decision. Which he did. Yet you are acting like I was way off and you were way on. Next time you want to make a point....be right?
