Just wondering what everyone is planning to wear out in dusseldorf - it looks clear but chilly.

I will be wearing the following:
- Suede shoes – not trainers as I’m not a mancunian
- Jeans
- Casual shirt
- Jumper
- Barbour jacket

I will also take a scarf / hat and decide on arrival weather they are needed according to the local climate. I probably won’t bother as they will be something to lose when drunk – but better to be safe than sorry!

I imagine the bar’s outside smoking areas will be well set up with heaters. There are weird by-laws in germany though that means you can smoke inside in some bars which will be nice!

P.S. I recommend you bring gloves. I will be!

Any pub recommendations? We're planning on doing the 4 main brew-pubs in the Altstad and then take it from there...

We also want to go on the big wheel - is that good?

Hey MacTavish, I live here. The main brew-pubs are the places to go - also around the markets for glühwein, given the season! If you are after Irish, McLaughlins is where you want to go.

I haven't been on the wheel myself but will enjoy a drink in the markets around it!

Unfortunately the laws changed a couple of years ago. You can still find a place or two which lets people light up, but they are usually in residential areas and for the locals. A disaster if you're like me and enjoy your beer with a smoke and vice versa!

I read somewhere that it wasn't open to the public as security is very tight for the whole event.
