Erislandy Lara vs Jan Zaveck

Post by handsofstone »

For those who forgot or didnt know this is on tonight(wed) at 1am on BT Sports 2,im working early so will watch it tomorrow night

TBH its pretty much nailed on for a Lara win,i know Zaveck is a former world champ but he's not in the Cubans league, although i dont know if Lara has ever held a proper title or just the WBA "Ordinary" LMW title he's defending tonight

I think the question is can Zaveck win a round or can Lara finally put a fighter out his misery and go for the KO? I doubt it ,Zaveck is tough and only got stopped on cuts against Berto, but he was pretty busted up bad from what i remember,Lara is like latter career Mayweather, doesnt seem interested in putting on a grand finale and finishing things off and he'll be more than happy to cruise to a landslide points win across the board

Well the mismatch that most predicted unfurled, from the opening round Zaveck never looked comfortable from Lara's clean shots and the injury looked dubious to me,what was it the arm?? i thought he was hobbling then he seemed to be closing one eye like he's took a thumb??

Either way it was a pretty waste of time fight,i'd love to see Lara get a fight with Cotto if Miguel moves back down to 154,although politics and Lara's style will prob stop this fight from happening,he's Cotto's worst nightmare

I was watching in a bar with no sound and from that viewpoint it looked to me like Zaveck just quit in a moment of frustration. He was getting hit with stinging shots & couldn't land anything of his own & had just had enough.

Then he faked a hobble/limp, then did something with his jaw before finally settling on his shoulder.

I could well be wrong but that's how I saw it.

Shame as he's had a decent career.
