MBC sick note

Post by questionmore »

It seems odd that gianluca dicario (aka Rio) is so quiet in this run up to the upcomming show on dec 6th where his partner is co promoting and fighting for 4 world titles. All the more odd as its his phone number on all boxrec listed fighters for tickets to the show and on all associated ticket outlets.
Is he really that ill - or is he really hiding in canada & pretending to be in London :??

What kind of attendance do these shows actually get? I'd imagine that hardly any of the boxers are big ticket sellers??

Why? I know EBF fighters that sell a lot more than pros.

My reasoning is, that they've all lost quite a few bouts. Would extended family/friends or work colleagues really want to spend cash watching them? Lets be honest, apart from close friends and family, most other people who buy tickets directly from boxers either want to see them smash someone up or extend their unbeaten runs. I'd imagine neither of those would be happening all that often

Been to my first MBC show today in Leeds combination of 5 EBF bouts & 3MBC sanctioned bouts , probably seen the best female bout & the worst decision all in one bout . Leeds girl Sam Smith boxed a girl from Greece in an absolute cracker but I just don't know how she got the decision . The mc announced a split decision went to Sam but there were no judges there only the referee scored the 10 round bout a big negative for the MBC . Another big surprise was seeing Jody Meikle stop his opponent in the first round to defend his masters title think jody shocked himself .

To clarify, the MC announced the result wrong and it wasnt rectified until after they left ring etc. sam smith lost in the end

Just seen the result has been changed , judges made an error on the cards and the wrong winner announced ,shocking really but justice was done in the end Sam didn't win that fight ! Still a bit confused though didn't actually see the 3 judges at ringside ?

If the MBC want credability the scores should have been announced by the MC after all it was a title fight , earlier Luke Junior beat Marty Kayes by split decision again no scores announced they need to be more professional !

Got my first MBC promotion this weekend (3 pro bouts and 12 "semi pro" bouts ). And while im well aware its not perfect, it is really only a new organisation, theres bound to be occasional issues. while theres obviously going to be things that need improving, no sanctioning body is perfect, i think in this country people are used to one way, and it may take years to either alter that view or for MBC to catch up and gain credibility.
For me i think Rio has put in a lot of time and effort himself into MBC, and theres only so much he can do... it needs the promoters, the supervisors/inspectors etc etc to continuously keep raising standards. Will my event saturday be perfect ?... probably not, but its my job to make improvements each time and learn the way things work as a pro promoter.
Ive got a couple of good signings in the pipeline to hopefully be finalised after christmas, as long as this show covers costs and gets my first pro show under my belt im happy and will move things forward from there.
In my opinion the fact several promotions and many boxers, are signing up from unlicensed can only overall be a good thing and make british boxing safer as a whole, which is the ultimate aim.
I could have stuck to unlicensed and kept costs low while turning over decent profits, but ultimately i realise it will never mean anything without turning pro, i want to develop into one of the countries leading promoters, MBC are the vehicle to begin that journey.. will it always be the case ? i dont know, maybe after a while id have to go BBBofC to keep growing...who knows what the future holds, but for now im happy with the work rio puts in and the team as a whole willing to help and offer advice etc.
I was a major player as an unlicensed promoter, im now in the unfamiliar surroundings of being a minor bit part, but lets see what the future holds.

I am a bit confused here. If the referee scored the fight how on earth can it be given to the wrong person?

Surely when Sam was stood in ring centre with her hand being raised the ref would tell the MC there & then they had it the wrong way around & they would know before they got to the changing room?!?!?!!

I've been to two MBC shows, and quite a few unlicensed. As a boxing spectacle, they were fkin awful. As a mechanism to sell tickets to family and friends I hope it makes you and the boxers a few quid, but masquerading as a professional show damages the sport, and all the bullshit titles, the bullshit WBU etc, does it no favours either.

If you want to develop into one of the country's leading 'professional' promoters, you'll need to try and attract a new audience, and as I'm sure you know, you'll need to invest a few quid. Ask Steve Goodwin. He's never cancelled a show to my knowledge, and I'm sure it's cost him in the past.

The MBC's credibility is already shot to bits. The future will hold f--k all without a modicum of honesty. Unfortunately, that's something Mr di Caro doesn't have a particularly good track record with, judging by some if the absolute nonsense he writes, and some of the bullshit explanations he provides for cancellations, mismatches, lack of security, etc etc etc.

The BBBoC has its faults, but it's standards have to be matched, at least. MBC is a million miles away from this, despite insisting that it isn't. I'd stick to unlicensed, and call a spade a spade. Nobody can knock you for that.

I am with Dan on this why have 3 MBC fights on your show you have to pay bigger purses etc to the MBC boxers plus sanctioning fees to the MBC etc etc which will eat massively into your profits I know that you have done well out of your shows in the format you have used in the past why change it now Damian ? Having MBC sanctioning will not increase your credibility mate it will just increase ur costs and nothing else but best of luck to you with your show

Ive just noticed this excerpt from Jimmy Brynes facebook status on Oct 23rd

------------------------------------------------
Just had a email and then a phone call from some one who was concerned about an issue surrounding an official. First off i`m always happy to help and speak to people. Secondly and most importantly there are far too many going around telling people they are a fully qualified official or professional referee ? STOP IT as your fooling no one

------------------------------------------------

funny how things work out innit

Jimmy Byrne & Lee Murtagh & Sam Smith all very good mates , when you read some of Jimmy's comments to Sam on facebook it's all very un professional . Neutral official think not !!
