Degale v Bute

I'm a big fan of Degale & hope he gets the stoppage win he wants but I don't think this fight is as easy as many are assuming.

Bute at home is a different person to Bute in Nottingham.

Degale should win but if Bute is still there at the end of the fight don't be surprised if he gets a decision.

Before you bet your house though I have to tell you that I've been wrong before.

Could the bookies have this wrong? if Degale messes around instead of working, even rounds could go to Bute with 18,000 cheering him.

If Degale was doing that when challenging for the title, he will be even more cocksure during a 'routine' defence in his eyes.

That would be a big mistake.

DeGale smashes him for me. Bute's never really beaten a really top level fighter and his two loses are both recent and were very poor performances. De Gale's not seriously heavy handed but if Bute really wants this and tries like a bear he gets stopped mid rounds, if he goes into his shell and doesn't engage then I can see it being a snorefest but one which De Gale win's handily.

Froch did to Bute what Calzaghe did to Lacy. Neither were as good as touted but each was diminished considerably afterwards

Agree Bute on home ground could be a very difficult proposition, even more so when you consider DeGale has a sometimes baffling tendency to switch off and coast - so unless he's completely shot, and he rides out the expected early JD fireworks, Bute could be a very live dog here.

Could work the other way though I'm sure Sky (they should) will mention it loads on the ppv meaning people who may not have been aware may stay up/get up and watch it.

Anyway this fight was all agreed before the Fury fight was moved wasn't it?

Or the flip side, when Degale labours to a close points victory, looking unspectacular, not many people will see it, and they can still bill him as the best supermiddleweight on earth...

Scott Gilfoid said 11pm ET, 8pm PT from the Videotron Centre Quebec. If he knows as much about timezones and card schedules as he does about spell checking and boxing general knowledge, expect a 4am start a week on Tuesday from Timbuktu.

Competitive scrap, but a clear win for DeGale.
It does worry me that he feels the need to take the odd round off here and there, I'd expect that from someone like Hopkins, not a man in his prime like DeGale.
But it's another win, another respectable name on his record and another seven figure payday for chunky, all in all not a bad nights work at all.

I had DeGale a clear 117-112 winner,was a bit worried when i seen Watt had it a draw,all in all a great win away from home but im still dissapointed in James's insistence of changing tactics constantly,its good to mix things up i know but DeGale always starts off great then eases off,i used to think it was a stamina issue then he blamed injuries to his knee/leg but i just think its ring smarts,he has all the tricks and moves and when he was throwing combinations he looked excellent and defensively he was class too but he let Bute start believing and with crowd cheering everything Lucian threw,he couldve been in danger of giving away his title and then left moaning of how he was robbed

His stamina looked good because he never stopped moving so he needs to learn to take a fight by the scruff of the neck at this level,i thought Bute was pretty poor TBH but i gave him a couple rounds for pressing and outworking DeGale

I really enjoyed this fight, shame it seems to have gone under the radar due to the Fury fight. Glad I set Sky to manual record though, the programme seemed to overrun by about 2 hours?

I am a big fan of Chunky, but there were moments that I really was hoping he would do a bit more. Although he did land a few good rights, I wasn't overly convinced by him when he went into an orthodox style. Regardless, he went away to defend the belt and now I hope to see him back in the UK or the unification fight against Jack.

Had Degale by 4 quite comfortable does seem to let rounds slide at times though and switch off.

Jim Watts commentary again was awful if you listened to him nobody would ever win a fight off the back foot.

Quite sick of Skys commentary teams trying to second guess poor or home town judging (was the same for Fury/Klitschko and Murray/Abraham) wish they'd just call/score the fight as they see it and bring that up later IF the cards are dodgy!

Fury and Degale got fair cards away from home....maybe we should stop banging on about dodgy judging abroad and concentrate on it over here!

Enjoyed the fight. Agree with others who've said its frustrating when Degale seems to coast through middle rounds and not do a lot. Can't do that every time I don't think or your going to end up losing a fight knowing you could have done a ton more work.

I do like Degale though my opinion has really changed on him. In the Groves fight I was firmly in support of Groves and loved it when he won. Since then there has been a massive change in Degale as a person (from what I've seen) and hes a good lad now hope he does well. The talk of him fight Jack in Vegas, anyone more in the know reckon that will happen? Would it be an undercard fight, as I assume neither are big enough to headline or am I wrong?

Degale is called "chunky" because he takes off large chunks during every round at times.

When he fights, he is really good - but that issue has still not been addressed.
