Most exciting division currently?
I think a few years ago 147 was quite easily the most exciting division to watch, mainly because there were so many top class fighters - I would say quite a lot of people still agree that 147 is the most competitive division still.. You have match-ups like pacman v khan, khan v brook, thurman v bradley - you've also got garcia v guerrero coming up.
I like the SM, as a Brit we have the likes of degale, smith, murray, groves all in top 10 - so I do like watching SM.
What's your guys opinions? and what be your dream match-ups?

Do you think Wilder would cause problems to Fury (now) or Joshua (now & in a year or two)?
Re: Most exciting division currently?
Super Feather is stacked from 1-10 and Walters is headed their way. Vargas v Miura was a harbinger, IMO.fightfan95 wrote:I think a few years ago 147 was quite easily the most exciting division to watch, mainly because there were so many top class fighters - I would say quite a lot of people still agree that 147 is the most competitive division still.. As an Englishman the lightweights are red hot.

For me heavyweights, and it has allways been that for me.
I mean, why care about the worldchampion lightweight if I know my mum would probably beat him in a real fight?

The lightweight division n the UK is packed with well matched and highly ranked boxers, Flanaghan, Crolla, Matthews, Mitchell, Campbell, Burns - it really is a great division for us.Chepppaaa wrote:palooka wrote:God call, the other weeks card in Russia was excellent.Chepppaaa wrote:cruiserweight division![]()

I think you have to be around 12-14 and if so I apologize for being so rude to you.
But your posts are like a child's.

If he is young then he's going to have a great time learning about some of the great little men of Boxing, he will be glad to look back at his posting a few years and laugh. Boxing is a wonderful sport to explore and has some incredibly inspiring figures, I wish I were getting into it for the first time.tiny_acres wrote:Serious question. How old are you?asdfjkl wrote:For me heavyweights, and it has allways been that for me.

Re: Most exciting division currently?
I think that 147 is still the prime rib cut but the major players there refuse to fight each other. I think that new lineal Middleweight Champ, Canelo Alvarez, really makes that division a lot more intriguing that it has been. And as a MW that is on the lighter side of the limit, there's a nice range of boxers ranging from 154-168 that could be in play now. Not to mention, the biggest possible fight you could make in all of boxing right now is Canelo vs. GGG. Kovalev and Ward would be the only fight I can think of that might be as big or in the ballpark with Canelo/GGG.
But heck, Boxing is stacked right now up and down the scale. Even the heavyweight division is looking pretty interesting these days. It's a very lucky time to be a boxing fan.

The heavyweight division is ALWAYS the most exciting.

The heavyweight division has always been the glamour division. Tge last ten years being tge exception.palooka wrote:I've been bored with it for around 10 years, last weekend is hopefully the start of an exciting era.x2x wrote:The heavyweight division is ALWAYS the most exciting.
I hope we do start a new golden age a ton of good prospects out there now
Re: Most exciting division currently?
I agree Tiny - there used to be real drama and prestige around the division. When I think of some of the heavyweights that did their utmost to win AND be exciting and dramatic the last years have been a waste. I hope that an exciting heavyweight comes through in Europe and fights regularly in Germany, then they may be less inclined to support a boring fighter.tiny_acres wrote:The heavyweight division has always been the glamour division. The Light Heavyweight division is pretty deep right now still
The Cruiserweight division is almost always competitive, and is particularly solid right now.

HEAVYWEIGHTS!
Divisions under lightweight are really hard for me to pay attention to. They look like starved midgets. The damn ring card girls standing next to them in pictures look bigger than they do.

Re: Most exciting division currently?
Ask 100 random Americans to name 5 random well known boxers or well known retired boxers and 80% of the boxers they name will be heavyweights.
It's allways the Mohammed Ali, Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Joe Frazier, Lennox Lewis, Rocky Marciano, both Klitschko's and nowadays Tyson Fury, Povetkin, name them. One of the very few exceptions might be Floyd Mayweather and Pacqiano or whatever his name is.

Light heavyweight
It's a loaded division, with some established boxers plus many talented up-and-comers.
Kovalev, Stevenson, Ward, Beterbiev, Pascal, Gvozdyk, Fonfara, Shabranskyy, Gonzalez, Browne, Barrera, Alvarez, Oosthuizen, Chilemba, Mekhontsev, Rodriguez, Cleverly, Skoglund, Monahan, Boesel, Kalajdzic, Salamov, Eskimov, and Dmitry Bivol, who could be the best of them all.

I think he was kidding about his Mum beating them. Not that I want to get in the middle of a pissing contest, but I relate to asdfjkl's point. I am sick and tired of missing a Heavyweight fight on TV in lieu of some half-starved junior bantamweights. I would like to have seen Nofire vs. Consuegra for example, but they showed some junior or super BS instead. This anti-heavyweight crap has really run it's course.

Re: Most exciting division currently?
Well, for me the most annoying thing is that there are way too many weightclasses and prices.Tony1244 wrote:tiny_acres wrote:Serious question. How old are you?asdfjkl wrote:For me heavyweights, and it has allways been that for me.

There are 18 differend weightclasses and each weightclass got about 5 differend world champions.
That means there are allmost a 100 worldchampions out there.
If some fighters have to they can gain three weightclasses in a week.
If it was like a 100 pound, a 120 pound, a 140, 160, 180 pound up to 200 and then heavyweight I might get a little more interested, but come on, 102, 105, 108, 112, 115, 118, that's just ridiculous.
The avarage American men weights about 180 pounds and I really think that the avarage American men can actually win against most of these 102-118 pound world champions right? It's allmost like children who are fighting.
And then there is another thing I don't like, Deontay Wilder for example never fought anyone out of the top 10, the best opponend he ever had was a boxrec rank 15 who had a rank 50 as his best opponend ever. Now I won't say Deontay is a bum, but you can't call yourself a worldchampion with such opponends can you? Well appearantly... Yes you can and that annoys me. There are just too many prices out there and sometimes, when someone retires, like Vitali Klitschko, they are just too easy to get.

That's because the heavyweights simply suck right now. They throw 20 punches a round and get tired. If you want to have some fun, watch any current heavyweight fight and then watch a 90s Evander Holyfield fight and the difference is like night and day. 250lb dudes with beer guts. Name 10 current heavyweights who have six packs. It's like the HWs don't even train. That's one thing lighter weights always had: They would be unable to make weight if they didn't train.
