"Tyson was in Wlad's head before the fight" - Lennox Lewis
LENNOX LEWIS: “TYSON WAS IN HIS HEAD BEFORE THE FIGHT.”
“I’ve seen tactics to give fighters different advantages before".
"In my fight with Mike Tyson, they built a small ring and told me it was the only one in the area they could get. I promptly bought a ring that was the size set forth, and agreed to in the contract, and shipped it to Memphis in time for fight. Using a small ring, would have given an added advantage to Tyson and since Don King was his promoter, these are the things people try in order to get an advantage".
“Klitschko was doing the same thing here with the ring padding in order to slow Fury down so it would be easier for Klitschko to catch up to him and also to take away his legs. Fury’s team discovered it and had some of the extra padding removed. Stepping into the ring felt like being on a mattress during a pillow fight.”
“In hindsight, the fact that Klitschko would resort to such tactics with the ring, not to mention Fury’s gloves and watching Klitschko’s hand wraps, is a signal that Tyson was in his head BEFORE the fight to me.
“There is an old saying that most battles are won, or lost, before they even take place. That seems to be the case here too.”

Though I'd rather listen to my girlfriend explain how her day was than sit through an interview with Lenox Lewis, this is a great take and I couldn't agree more. Heck, 80% of Mike Tyson's victories were sealed before they even stepped into the ring.
It reminds of all the trickery and gamesmanship Floyd employed the last decade going into his fights. All of the advantages that he HAD to have or he wouldn't step into the ring. Those include his opponents gloves, judges, referees, venue, locker room, post fight meals. etc.

I would be amazed if the Klits didn't pull such 'tricks' in almost every fight they have had
Re: "Tyson was in Wlad's head before the fight" - Lennox Lewis
I remember Margarito was similarly low key and despondent in the bout with Shane Mosely after his loaded bandages has been discovered and he had to box on a fair level. It looks as all the 'gentlemanly' Klitsko was just very good PR, he or his team tried to cheat and were caught out, it makes you wonder how many times they cheated and got away with it (and this is without looking at how many bouts should be made NC because of PED use by Wlad).

You can look at your Lennox Lewis if you want to see some dirty tricks - and dirty fighting. Plenty of that in boxing. David Haye's people messed with Monte Barret when he went to London, called the hotel to cancel his reservation, something else too that I forget...in house referee...well, that's the norm not the exception in boxing, that and - even more so - phony judges.

The only tricks I know of the Klitschkos pulling was the ring floor thing they tried to do the other night. That was chicken s___.
Re: "Tyson was in Wlad's head before the fight" - Lennox Lewis
I don't see how that's an advantage for Klitschko, but not an advantage for Fury. They'd both be standing in the same ring.x2x wrote:The only tricks I know of the Klitschkos pulling was the ring floor thing they tried to do the other night. That was chicken s___.

He wanted to stop Furys movement and make the fight as closer quarters. The ring would of worked in his favour. The Revival wrote:I don't see how that's an advantage for Klitschko, but not an advantage for Fury. Palooka is not a 'vulture'. That was a valid point about all the Klitschko gamesmanship over the years under the guise of being 'gentlemanly'.man wrote:the vultures are feasting on the prey.palooka wrote:I remember Margarito was similarly low key and despondent in the bout with Shane Mosely after his loaded bandages has been discovered and he had to box on a fair level. Now Klitschko has called the rematch an 'early Christmas present for boxing fans'

There was also the issue with the gloves and also Wlad wrapping his hands without a Fury representative present.x2x wrote:The only tricks I know of the Klitschkos pulling was the ring floor thing they tried to do the other night. That was chicken s___.

Re: "Tyson was in Wlad's head before the fight" - Lennox Lewis
I' m surprised no one in boxing gets this fight!
Wlad was near 40 yards of age. He has aged in dog years since his last fight. In the past, Wlad has bene cautious with rangy fighters who stay away but have enough power to hurt him in Haye and Ibragimov.
Fury gigantic reach and superior youthful energy allowed him to hit Wlad, then dance away, winning the punch stat battle. Wlad made the job easy for him by opting not to engage. A man who used to throw 50 punches a round hardly threw any.
The thing is Wlad wasn't counted much in this fight, he just opted not to engage. One guy is a mediocre boxer, the other opted not to fight. The judging was fair. There's your story
If Wlad is hungry, or embarrassed he'll win the rematch as he hurt Fury the few times he connected.

Fury & his team played Wladimir at his own game & definitely got into his head before the fight.
