Boxing Podcasts

Fair to say that this topic has no doubt been done quite a few times, however a quick search just finds people promoting their own ones, most of which seem a bit crap, or have since died off.

Are there any good ones of note that should be checked out?

Been trying a few recently and they're all a bit 'meh'. Boxing News one is okay, but a bit infrequent. Bunce is Bunce, which again is perfectly fine for me as I don't particularly dislike him the way some do. He's just okay.

All the others I've tried seem to run into the same problems. They either sound like they've been recorded in a bin with some tin cans and just awful audio levels, and/or they go on for 3+ hours, which for me is too much when it's 2-3 times a week.

So what I'm looking for really is...

- Sound quality isn't shit. By which I mean better than two people chatting on a distant phone line as most sound.
- Length of around 1hr or so preferred
- Actually still going/updated at least once a week.

All suggestions taken on board, even if it's your own show.

Found this half decent page of embedded boxing podcasts the other day. I've listened to a couple which seemed ok.

Not sure if it's a well known one but that "Boxing Asylum" have a podcast. I follow a couple of them on twitter and they seem to record new podcasts at least once a week. Haven't listened to them though so I've got no idea about the quality etc.

Yeah it's very well known (amongst boxing fans anyway). It's a decent listen when you're in the mood, although 3 hours is a big time commitment so I tend to pick & choose the sections I listen to.

I tend to stick to either Buncey or Toe 2 Toe, which has got markedly better since the Ringside TV show finished.

Keep an eye on the TalkSport 'Kick Off' podcast for when Gareth A Davies does a show (about once a month) and also the Five Live Sports Specials for the build up to big fights (there were two pre and one post-Fury).

Has "Toe To Toe" got better then? I gave up on that ages ago as Fearon was doing my tits in, but if it's got better I'll give it a try again.

Bunces is the best. Toe to toe just the usual sky hyperbole and actually very poor audio quality overall considering its sky. Espns much better produced and bunce has a good array of guests. Barry jones better than fearon and his malapropisms.

It's better than the last time I tried it about a year ago for sure; in the last few weeks they've had David Coldwell and Darren Barker as guests for example, and have changed the format of the 'show' for the better.

Boxing asylum and the next big pod are 2 that I listen to if I have a long drive.

Have to agree that Bunce and Toe2toe are the best of a limited bunch.

Tried the HBO one the other day and it was terrible. Worst I've ever heard.

Ingredients for success are to keep interviews short and sweet. Have 2-3 people on the pod, do a proper round-up of boxing news worldwide and keep all the chatting relevant. Having a presenter/credible expert format is the way.

I'd like to have a crack at doing one - just need to find an expert!

The Steve Kim and Gabriel Montoya podcast called "The Next Round" is one of the longest running ones. They had Larry Merchant on with them last week. It's around 2 hrs long, show is released every Monday.

Digging this up from the past a bit but just started listening to the boxing asylum podcast, having avoided it for ages thinking it would be rubbish. Have to say I love it. Had me in stitches at times and for the most part they know what they are on about.

I would try this one (I thought it was with Mario Lopez of Saved by the bell fame?!) but Kim's voice just annoys me.

On the ESPN podcast this week, it sounded like Bunce had had too many E numbers. There are times when you can imagine Barry Jones thinking, 'just shut the eff up and let me speak'.
There was also a bit this week in which Bunce messed up and nearly swore and had to do something again...strangely they didn't cut it out.
