Boxing News and their over the top praise of Tyson Fury
Boxing News and their over the top praise of Tyson Fury
They gave the fight at the weekend the same rating as the De Gale fight!?!? one round of the De Gale fight had more action than the full Fury fight.
Then they have Fury top of the British pound for pound ratings? Pound for pound, to me, means that if all fighters were equal then who would be the best boxer about. How can anyone seriously believe that if Fury was the same weight as Kell Brook or Amir Khan that he would stand a chance? Name an attribute or skills that Fury excels at compared to they 2?
The defensive approach adopted by boxing fans and now the boxing media of that fight at the weekend is utterly ridiculous. Folk are so worried about the state of boxing and desperate not to show the sport in a bad light that they are deluding themselves and adopting ridiculous stances that are more likely to alienate potential boxing fans rather than attract them.
Fair play to Fury for doing what he did and baffling Wlad with his movement but don't try and pretend that was entertaining.

He's just beat the unified HW champion of the world who has dominated for 10 years! Of course he's p4p number 1 in the UK ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

If Kell Brook was the same size as Tyson Fury who would win?

P4P isn't the same size it's the same weight, as Fury is a giant even at HW that has to a factor at any P4P weight match.Supremo wrote:If Kell Brook was the same size as Tyson Fury who would win?
Resume also is a major factor in most P4P lists and Wlad is clearly a much more accomplished fighter than Porter
Re: Boxing News and their over the top praise of Tyson Fury
Fury has one impressive win in his career, that does not equal a resume. Upsets happen, he hasn't proven himself beyond dispute as the greatest heavyweight on the planet. Brook's resume isn't great either I will concede but pound for pound he hits harder, his timing is far better, his footwork is far better, his balance is far better, his speed is better, every aspect you can think of Brook is far superior to Fury if all things were equal.

Boxrec have him p4p #3 in the world now because that is where Vlad was pre fight. They have Kell at #7.

Last weekend's win is indisputable. It wasn't a lucky punch, it was an outclassing of a long term unified champion.Supremo wrote: he hasn't proven himself beyond dispute as the greatest heavyweight on the planet.
Fury is a worthy Britsh P4P number 1.

Re: Boxing News and their over the top praise of Tyson Fury
Objectively, I'd definitely agree that the DeGale fight was miles better than the Fury fight, and if Wlad was facing some other random heavyweight we'd all be saying what a poor advert for the division it was.
However it's sometimes not as simple as that - the Fury fight was a huge event featuring a guy we've all been watching closely for the last 5 or 6 years & has generally given us loads of entertainment along the way. It also effectively represented a changing of the guard after 10 years of Klitschko dominance, and ended up being a big upset as most predicted (myself included) that Tyson wouldn't even get out of the early rounds.
So with all of that taken into account, I'd say Boxing News had it right.

The fight was a dreadful bore. To rate the fight the same as the DeGale fight is simply wrong. To rate the result the same however.....Correct. 100%
Nobody could, or should take anything away from Tyson Fury for winning that fight and those prestigious belts. It was a fantastic achievement, against the pretty much undisputed king of heavyweights of the past decade. The record books will always reflect that and any praise is justified.
But, the fight was rubbish. It was a poor spectacle. I think that is what the original poster is getting at.If I had the choice between watching a re-run of the DeGale fight or the Fury fight there is no contest.

Fury is p4p british number 1 right now. It's the achievement that gives him the nod.
If he were the same size as Kell Brook then of course Kell would smash him to bits but that's far too simple a comparison and always unfair on the heavyweights. Make Fury, Wlad and co all 5'8, 147lb and retain their boxing skills and none of them would be ranked above area level. The heavyweights are always far less skilled than elite lighter fighters.
Fury beat the undisputed, dominant champ at heavy. That's enough for me

P4P isn't about "if they were the same size who would win."
It's about comparing the accomplishments of different size fighters, then putting them in order.
You know, actual tangible facts - not fantasy.
If Porter had dominated welter for a decade, and brook went and toppled him - then we'd have a debate. I'm not diminishing Porter's scalp - but Wlad's scalp is 20 times more than Porters until last Saturday.
Fury's performance wasn't pretty, but it was going to be the only way to get the job done. It's not like he pick-pocketed the win either, he threw more and Wlad's face confirmed it at the end.

No I don't mind him as a person, actually grew to like him recently but that fight was rotten and I hate how boxing fans are trying to cover that fact up, I also don't think he is a very skilled boxer.

Re: Boxing News and their over the top praise of Tyson Fury
In all honesty i think Klitschko probably brought the worst out in Fury,Tyson was comfortable from the bell and slipped right into cruise control,Wlad never brought anything to the table to make Fury bring out anything else from his arsenal
Tyson Fury is a good boxer despite what anyone says, his style might not be for everyone but he can box and isnt a clown,if he was well mannered out the ring i can imagine him being compared with some of the more polished heavyweights, especially at the higher level
Fury dealt with Klitschko with the same ease as he did with Chisora twice and Johnson,he's definitly got more gears without a doubt, but if a rematch happens Wlad better learn how to pull the trigger or Fury will simply outbox him again,if Klit does land then we'll get to see the fun Fury of old

Fury has one big result, if Bournemouth beat the champions Chelsea tomorrow does that make Bournemouth the best team in England?

I'd have Fury number one P4P in the Uk. His win over Wlad was a win over the number one guy in his division.
The only recent comparisons are Hatton against Kosta.
I'd also include Calzaghe-Lacy as that proved his number one at the weight class.

Yep the British boxing propaganda machine has gone into overdrive. Great result, yes. Great fight, yes - but only if you're longing for the days of Matthew Barney's cuddle parties.Supremo wrote:No I don't mind him as a person, actually grew to like him recently but that fight was rotten and I hate how boxing fans are trying to cover that fact up, I also don't think he is a very skilled boxer.Stevieb8006 wrote:you seem to be doing loads of negative fury posts mate, did his old man gouge your eye or something?Supremo wrote:They gave the fight at the weekend the same rating as the De Gale fight!?!? one round of the De Gale fight had more action than the full Fury fight.

Re: Boxing News and their over the top praise of Tyson Fury
Was Furys method of winning any worse than some of Mayweathers performances, or some of Wladamirs performances. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to win. Mourinhio knew his Inter Milan side couldn't out attack Barcelona when he went to Nou Camp in the semi final 2010. Barca won 1-0 and had 80% possession. But Inter won the war and subsequently the champions league in the final.
I would've liked nothing more than to see Fury steam into wlad, ball to the floor, swinging for the hills. But 9 times out of 10 he would've lost. Fury showed good movement, feints, head movement, and did what he had to do to dethrone a man who's been champion for 10 years. He was 5-1 against to win by any method,
Credit where credits due I say.

Wikipedia? Don't make me chuckle. That's written by anyone. I have a wiki account, and I could change it right now.
You cannot compare team sports with individuals.
P4P is like comparing Usain Bolt against Mo Farah - you have to look at the records and see what they've beaten . Both runners in different categories.
