I'll throw 3 in as potential post Rio prospects

Ivan Dychko - super heavyweight (lost by point or two to joshua in 2012)

Michael Conlon - Irish Bantamweight superstar

Bektemar Melikuzniev - 19 year old Middleweight, Rio could be ideal time for him to peak / shine

do you think he will turn as a middleweight or super middleweight in the pros, sounds like a great opponent for GGG in 2-3 years.

Roberto Cammarelle perhaps, if he isn't going downhill

This was a tournament in 2007:
Defeated Kubrat Pulev (Bulgaria) PTS (12-5)
Defeated David Price (Great Britain) walk-over
Defeated Islam Timurziev (Russia) walk-over
Defeated Vyacheslav Glazkov (Ukraine) PTS (24-14)

I recognise quite some of those names.

He lost to Povetkin all 3 times they fought though.

Magomedrasul Majidov and Joseph Joyce are also quite some names
Tony Yoka won against Parker

I'd love Savon to turn over.

He has the style suited to the pros and hopefully the fact he gets continuous screwed by amateur judges might make him turn.

The lifestyle away from Cuba might affect him. He still hasn't qualified for Rio either.

Long shot he will ever turn but hope he does.

Uzbekistan have a shed load if quality fighters but very rarely turn pro.

Someone mentioned Conlan he's 100% guaranteed to turn after RIO with MGM.

he won youth title at 152lbs in 2014. hard to say, think him and GGG will miss each other, but Bektemar is a huge prospect

Savon is somewhat overrated imo. His chin is also a bit of a worry.

All of the Italian national team are paid good money to be police but I don't think they actually ever put on a uniform. The word is he comes from money, he's in his 30's and is making good money as an amateur who can also fight in the WSB and ABP so why take a chance on his legacy. He is not an exciting amateur and won't ever be a pro world champ. His skills are on the downturn.

91+ Fraser Clarke from England is big and has good skills. I'm not sure of his age but I think he is young. Keep an eye out for him. He is in the finals for the Rio test event.

Keisuke Matsumoto-Japanese 16/17 year old who is said to be targeting the 2020 Olympics. His father and trainer is a former world title challenger who has had him in the Ohashi gym with Yaegashi and Naoya Inoue. It's a long shot but...he's already received a decent amount of publicity on Fuji TV via the show Mirai Monsters...

Rio test events don't usually have great quality

Clarke is alright but joe joyce is the British number one so Clarke doesn't have a chance of going to the olympics

As I said the test even isn't of great quality. Ireland 2nd choice fighters won a few gold at the last olympic test event

Seen him for the first time in the European champs. His brother's decent but this lad looks levels above!

Many countries send their # 1's but it sounds like Ireland and GB don't. I saw Clarke last year in Finland and worked the corner for USA and he easily beat our #1 guy. I was impressed with Clarke and was told he was young so Joyce will probably turn pro after the Olympics and then Clarke will get his chance for 2020.

Ryomei Tanaka did well at the test event event, he's been kicking ass on the Japanese domestic scene and his younger brother is already a world champion

ya Clarke is a good fighter, unfortunetly he doesn't get the opportunity with Joshua and joyce being ahead of him now and in the past. ya Ireland never really focus on this its a bit low level, Kenny egan won gold at the last one and was our number 2, beat guys who went onto the Olympics. I think this is going to be Irelands strongest Olympic squad ever, we have already qualified 4(should be 5 but was a robbery) and the talent is unreal

49kg - Paddy Barnes (Q)
52kg - Brendan Irvine (a cert to qualify, id say 90% chance he qualifies
56kg - Michael Conlon (Q)
60kg - David Oliver Joyce/Sean McComb (both top class id say a 70-80% chance to qualify)
64kg - Ray moylette/Dean Walsh ( good fighters id say 60% chance to qualify)
69kg - Steven Donnelly (Q)
75kg - Micahel O'Reilly (should have already qualified, class act 100% chance he qualifies)
81kg - Joe Ward (Q)
91kg - Darren O'Neill (great performances against tishchenko and the Ukrainian and a lot of Europeans have already qualified so 60% chance)
91kg+ - Dean Gardiner ( slim chance imo 5-10%)

I think Ireland should be aiming for 7 to qualify at least, 9 would be unbelievable

When was Kenny Egan #2? In 2012? Hell he was No 1 for many years including Beijing when he got robbed for the Olympic gold. I know he went through some problems after Beijing. Back in '00 he came to Baltimore to a show I put together that was supposed to be the Holy Family club vs Baltimore except Gerry Storey brought an Irish all star team with only a few of the boxers from Belfast. Egan was a middleweight then. Good dude. I hope things are going better for him now. Both Ireland and team GB have really done a nice job with their national boxing programs. So good the US had to steal one of your coaches Billy Walsh.
