Ernie shavers - Anyone got a contact number
Publishing a book next year for which I would really like the author to interview Ernie shavers.
I have number of contacts via after dinner speaking agencies. However, if anyone had any more direct contact, I would be inordinately grateful and my largesse in free bookitude would know no bounds ( not strictly true but I could certainly stretch to a copy of the 1974 Pitkins annual )
Thanks in anticipation

Oh I'll bet he's pretty well known around the area, he married a liverpudlian woman after all.
Who'd have thought it, from alabama to liverpool. Even though he is 60 now I bet that particular branch of Yates' doesn't get too much trouble.
This one's for Mr McNeilly and Knockout, do you remember Klaus from the bar at uni?

To be honest there are probably a few factors....Neri1983 wrote:Its a nice place to drink and not known for being a trouble spot, i wonder whyjamesmcdonnell wrote:Oh I'll bet he's pretty well known around the area, he married a liverpudlian woman after all.

Yep, he was a hard old fornicator as well. Once saw him catch someone's fist in mid air and bend them down to the floor, was quite impressive. Considering the guy was in his 60's he was in pretty amazing nick.knockout wrote:Good old Klaus!!! nice guy!!! his missus worked behin the bar didnt she???jamesmcdonnell wrote:Oh I'll bet he's pretty well known around the area, he married a liverpudlian woman after all.

Always reminded me of windor davies without the tash.
Apparently though they got rid of him in the end after a fight broke out and he failed to stop it, and someone (that little wanker fizz) kicked him in the head.
They then got in some lunatic ex-squaddie with a hair trigger temper from what I hear, who used to lose it at the drop of a hat.

Just checking Shaver's record. I clean forgot he beat Bugner!
There are some very interesting stats on there. Taking Holmes the distance ( the next fight after doing the same to Ali ) and taking Holmes 11 rounds the next time they fought
His record smacks of inconsistency rescued by a KO punch

I met him around 1988 at York Hall Bethnal Green. Nice guy, very relaxed. He seemed to be very much into religion at the time - thought he might go the Foreman route and become a preacher.
Never seen anyone hit so hard and get up off the canvas as Holmes in the 2nd Shavers fight.
9 times out of 10 that fight would've been stopped as Holmes reeled around the ring after getting up, and Shavers wouldv'e been champ.

Yeah Uni of Essex....
That Fizz was a cock... took a bit of gear and thought he could take on the world... My Friend Vinny (the chinese guy) gave him a bitch slap one night.... when he had sobered up in the morning he came round and apologised...
I remember that Bugner cliamed he was butted...mercman wrote:A case of an irresistable force against an immovable object with this one. Some say Shavers knocked Bugner out but that is not true. Although Shavers did have him down Bugner got back up and it was, in fact, a stoppage on cuts.I clean forgot he beat Bugner!
