That's his job -- sometimes taking punches. Closing eyes is unprofessional.

My theory is it is a phenomenon which occurs when something hits someone in the face.

Agreed, open your eyes and take those punches like a professional would.

I don't know man. I've heard that if you keep your eyes open while sneezing, your eye balls will pop out. I think the same goes for getting punched in the face..... I may be wrong tho. It may show heart as a pro to keep your eyes open, but if you want to keep your eye balls intact, close them suckas.

i believe he was trying to implement a very advanced technique which
most people on this forum have never learned, the "hold your hands above
your head like your being arrested and close your eyes" offensive maneuver.
he obviously wasn't successful this time because he didn't execute it properly.

ok. i am not a professional, not even an
amateur, but that seems outright nonsense.
how on earth should it make sense to get hit
directly into your eye?

Question - is this the only post in the whole thread which isn't sarcastic?

You have to close your eyes at some point, if you sneeze you close your eyes as well, some people even say you can pop your eyeballs out if you don't

I think the OP is just unfamiliar with the science behind what happens when someone gets punched in the face

Here's my suggestion for him.

He should put on a boxing glove, stand in front of his bathroom mirror, and punch himself with everything he's got.

Do this 31 times.

Then come back here and tell us how many times he blinked during the whole process.

If it was more than 16 times, then we can assume it is somewhat normal to close ones eyes soon after getting hit.

We await your report, Sir!

If you look closely back at the fight you can see Quillin try to avoid Jacobs punches

On the real, he DID look kinda clueless defensively.

And not warmed up very well either.

He got caught a shot and paid for it.

Folks can complain about the stoppage being premature all they want.

They might even be right.

But none of it is necessary if Kid Chocolate shows up ready to rumble last night.

He didn't and the right guy got a W.

I thought it was a good call by the ref,i would have loved to have seen Quillin take a knee but thats not the refs fault and Peter was on queer street, world title fight or not,Quillin could have been very badly hurt if a guy with Jacobs power landed another clean shot on someone in Quillin's condition

Like I've said here before, whenever there are folks questioning a stoppage, one of the first things I do
is look at the fighter's immediate reaction to being stopped (as opposed to whatever wolf tickets he might
try to sell later postfight).

In this case, Quillin DID NOT protest when the ref stepped in.

Case closed as far as I am concerned...

Good call, at first it looked quick but it saved him from really getting KO'd and hurt.
