The power was with mickey duff & Mike Barrett as the promoters and the cartel including ,Jarvis astaire which for the 70s and some of the 80s had a monopoly on British boxing as far as tv (bbc) and therefore attracted the best fighters.e.g. watt, minter, hope, stracey, magri,Lawless,Bruno,Lawless trained most in that golden period,Lawless had a calm manner in the corner, and fighters felt they could put their trust in him.

The only power Barret had was his contract with The Royal Albert Hall. Duff and Astaire were the men. Lawless was a good trainer. Really nice man, too, let me and my mates into a show once without tickets. We were only about 13.
