Re: 2 snippets of news today -Fury and Bruno
Fury rambling on about the devil coming and all that other stuff won't do him any favours or earn him many lucrative contracts or tv awards/publicity that could earn him a load more lucrative contracts. Talking shite in public is a good way to miss out on a lot of opportunities.
Also, Frank Bruno hasn't lost a fight in nearly 20 years...

On achievement he should win it hands down.SNG wrote:Why should he get a pass for saying the things he said? No one else would, trying to make it about him being from the travelling community is absurd.PredatorHayds wrote:The media witchhunt on Fury is a disgrace.
Him beating Wlad is equivalent to when Murray won Wimbledon.
He should walk SPOTY but got a feeling he will get robbed due to all this bad publicity.
Unfortunately racism towards the travelling community still seems acceptable in today's society.
Also, the bbc sports personality of the year is about achievement not actual personality ffs.
Re: 2 snippets of news today -Fury and Bruno
Brits don't tend to warm to the Yank style preaching that Fury does.

Couldn't give a toss who wins the bastard award.
Fury can't expect not to draw criticism making such neanderthal comments as a public figure. You reap what you sow.

Not to be a pedant but the traveling community are not a "race".PredatorHayds wrote:Unfortunately racism towards the travelling community still seems acceptable in today's society.
I think Fury is a victim of the PC gestapo, who exist on the internet in enormous grey vague faceless numbers and are hell bent on toppling any person of achievement in order to lessen the agony of their own lack of achievement.
Re: 2 snippets of news today -Fury and Bruno
Yeah its PC gone mad. Why can't all male celebs say that a womans best place is on her back and that homosexual men are the sign of the apocolypse. I mean those are just perfectly ok public views in 2015 arn't they?
Hmmmmm......

Re: 2 snippets of news today -Fury and Bruno
Okay enough of this. Mo Farah and Andy Murray can claim to be amongst the best British sportsmen of all time and their sports have way more competition than the current heavyweight division. Let's not forget before Fury won the division was considered the worst of all time. Joshua is in most people's top 10 whilst he is still a novice. Great win by Fury but it certainly doesn't put him at the top.Stevieb8006 wrote:ThisPredatorHayds wrote:On achievement he should win it hands down.SNG wrote:

And surely people get bored of banging on about personality year after year. You want personality then watch a soap opera. It's obviously sporting achievement of the year and whilst Fury is well worthy of a shortlist spot, boxing a clever but boring 12 rounds against a 39 year old who threw about 8 right hands on PPV isn't winning. Amount of people who take time out to post "blah blah blah but I couldn't care less who wins, personality bullshit bullshit bullshit " fornicate me

Murray-Hamilton-Fury.
There you go. What channel was Davis Cup on - how many saw it?

It is actually whatever the people who vote want it to be. Call it what you want - Personality, person, achievement, character etc, is all immaterial as it is voted for by the people and they will all interpret it how they want.Lenny wrote: It's obviously sporting achievement of the year
On this thread, some have said they think it is all about personality and some have said achievement and they will vote accordingly. So it is not "obviously" anything.

What a complete load of BS.
Fury has always been a divisive character, this has just been magnified now since the obvious media spotlight on him. His background has nothing to do with this, just the shite out of his mouth.
If he hired a PR team he'd be ok, but clearly going the Jeremy Kyle route to get himself media attention which is fine but don't start waving the racist card around.
As for SPOTY, you're joking. Yes he beat Wlad but obviously both fighters were in the ring doing the minimum possible to win the fight. This & Floyd vs. Pac this year must have been a real slap in the face to the casual audience. Personally I'd put DeGale's achievements this year over Fury any day of the week but because he just gets on with things in the ring he's not got the spotlight.

I don't think anyone with more than one, maybe two brain cells actually takes the BBC award seriously.
Re: 2 snippets of news today -Fury and Bruno
I really disagree when people have a go at "horsey" people winning it - if they have won their equivalent of the world championship - then why not?
It's bloody solid and incredibly brave to have that much control over an animal.
Its a bit like saying "all Kelly Holmes did was run around a track twice, what is the significance of that".
I can see more logic for the criticism if a flat racing jockey won it - they are nutters also, but less skill than show jumpers if you ask me.
I would say a horsey "world champion" is of equal standing to Lewis Hamilton in which the machine is a big issue. All f1 drives are really talented, but I would say the vast majority on the grid would come at least second to Hamilton overall if they were in Rosberg's car.

Disagree with De Gale. Boxing wise I'd put Mcdonnell ahead of him as I rate his two wins over Kameda higher than DeGale over Dirrell and Bute.moogie101 wrote:PredatorHayds wrote:The media witchhunt on Fury is a disgrace.

As crap a fight as it is, Fury still deserves credit for the win, if not the manner of it, let's not forget than nobody else came close to winning in the last 10 years.
I'd not rate Degale over Fury at all, given how dominant a force Wlad has been for so long.

Fury's views are absolute bollocks,i wonder if in 20 years time he'll be happy for his daughter to be disrespected by men with the same values as him, plus he's always tweeting crap about religion which im certain is absolute bollocks too
I dont get offended though because i know he's all about,he loves winding up Joe Public he's mostly very funny, not original by any means but still funny in an otherwise dull pool of fighters,i bet Fury pissed his pants laughing when he heard some daft bastard started a petition
Homosexuality and Abortion are serious subjects which cause a lot of hurt and even suicides but people shouldnt get offended when a guy says moronic shite,if im honest i believe everything in the bible to be on a par with santa and the tooth fairy, but dont get offended by my views, who gives a toss, nobody can make me believe in religion, the same way i would never try to convert someone religious to atheism ,be what and who you want to be as long as you try to be a nice person regardless of what any athlete or celebrity says
Lets get it right,95% of people in the public eye talk utter drivel anyway whether their talking about religion or their new album/movie

I was about to say the same thing. It's not discrimination due to his background (travellers are not a race). It's outrage at the political incorrectness of what he said. Virtually everyone will think what he has said is wrong shouldn't come into it.Tuan_Jim wrote:Not to be a pedant but the traveling community are not a "race".PredatorHayds wrote:Unfortunately racism towards the travelling community still seems acceptable in today's society.

Staying stupid things doesn't lessen sporting achievement. I don't think he shouldn't have said anything he has said, the media should issue a rebuttal pointing out how he is wrong about it and then get on with assessing what he has done in the boxing ring.

What did he say that was of so much significance? This country has turned so politically correct its unreal, he didn't make any hateful comments. He doesn't agree with homosexuality or abortions, he's strict catholic its part of the bloody religion, where's the shock in that. He said Jessica Ennis has achieved great things and looks bang tidy - I say that all the time. He said he thinks women belong in the kitchen but if they want to box who is he to dictate what they are allowed to do - take a look at him and his wife together does it look like she's lacking empowerment?SNG wrote:Why should he get a pass for saying the things he said? The one thing I would say about Fury is that he's one of the few candidates who might actually be clean.
Re: 2 snippets of news today -Fury and Bruno
You know, I feel genuinely embarrassed reading comments from people like you, it's sad that because he's a boxer you'll let him say and do what he likes without the criticism it deserves. It isn't about having opinions, no one really gives a fornicate what most people think, he's entitled to hold those views, but he isn't entitled to have those views put in the paper and be immune from the criticism it deserves, no one is, the fact you think he deserves to be immune says quite a lot about you. Would you be saying the same thing about radical Islamists? Are their views okay to be put in the paper and not be criticised? After all it's their interpretation of their religion just like Fury's. He didn't make any hateful comments? You're having a laugh, if you don't understand why what he said was wildly offensive you should leave the commenting to the adults as you clearly don't have the critical faculties to understand even minutely what he was saying, this comes after you swallowed (oooh) wholely his nonsense about being misquoted and misrepresented without even the faintest pause for thought just because HE said it.Finn wrote:What did he say that was of so much significance? People can hold whatever opinion they like, but if you don't want the media to have a pop, or the general public keep it to your self, it's fairly obvious to most of us.
