Floyd Claims Canelo/Cotto Fight Was Fixed...

Post by caldo2025 »

When asked for his thoughts on the Cotto/Canelo fight, Mayweather responded:

"Do I think that Canelo won? Absolutely. Canelo won the fight, but it wasn't no 119-109. Those crazy scores [119-109 and 118-110] that they had was ridiculous...I do think the fight was a lot closer than 119-109. That is fornicating ridiculous. In my opinion, I'm not saying this is what happened, but in my opinion, either somebody is handpicking these judges or something is going on that's not right."

Did you catch that last line and did you laugh as hard as I did when you read it? Just to recap, Floyd is not taking it anymore. He thinks taht Canelo handpicked the judges for the fight against Cotto and that's why the scoring was favorable to him and it was just unfair...boohoo. Who were those judges? Dave Moretti, Burt Clemente and John McKale. Yup, that Moretti that judged almost everyone of Floyd's fights the last four years. Moretti has been paired with either Clemente or McKale in 3 of Floyd's last 4 fights.

Is this guy for real? This reminds me of how outspoken Floyd was about PEDs only to be caught with a flushing agent the night before the Manny fight. I bet he really hates women beaters and people that spend extravagantly too.

It was Dave Moretti with the wide scorecard on Cotto/Canelo....

Some people here need to just let go of the Floyd hate. He is retired. If you keep making his name relevant, you are doing just what he wants. Carry on. :OhYes:

Rick Glaser actually said the same thing right afterwards, but pointed to Cotto's decision to not pay WBC sanctioning fees as the reason why it would happen. He never ourwardly said "fix" either, just that the judges would know what to do in order to keep getting WBC work.

I don't think we can overlook the fact that the very existence of Golden Boy is now tied to one boxer now. Canelo is all the Oscar has right now and thankfully for them, he's also the new top star of the sport.

There were some additional quotes from Floyd in that article I pulled the OP from. One in which he points to the one judge that scored Floyd and Canelo as a draw. I have to agree with Floyd here. That one smells very badly. Amongst boxing's various opinions of what wins a round, you won't find any way to come close to scoring that fight a draw. No way possible.

I honestly think that Oscar had something to do with that. I think he expected Canelo to lose that fight unless he got a lucky KO so he paid a little extra money to save face for his boxer. Probably said, no matter what, do not let Floyd win a unanimous decision.
