Dillian Whyte in the AJ rematch?
As Whyte walked out to his entrance music, Peter Fury tweeted:
"Whyte 17st 9lbs?? Not good start I said 16/7. Movement & speed would have been best option I think. What a shame Dillian wasn't in shape! Well done both lads. Dillian was exhausted. Very interesting & entertaining."
It's a rather interesting remark, and for the most part I completely agree with it; thus the question is given Whyte's durability/chin, in a rematch if his hand and foot speed were worked out accordingly, to which they'd be dependent for the speed and movement element, would the outcome would be different? Especially as both were fairly gassed out after the 4th round.
And the shoulder injury element being taken into account; does bring a new meaning to the 2nd round, as I do think that played a great role in his failure to capitalise in the TKO stoppage, which I initially solely blamed that issue on hand and foot speed.
What do you think?

'movment and speed'; not really Whyte's game, or anything close to it, from what I have seen of him
Re: Dillian Whyte in the AJ rematch?
I think it would be a different Joshua who turned up aswell. He has admitted he was too emotionally charged and until he got buzzed he was fighting like a brawler. when he regained his composure he started to outbox whyte. The shoulder may have been injured but I still don't think he would have lived with Joshua if he stuck to his boxing. Whyte is a good brawler but eats way to many punches.Bart Allen wrote:As Whyte walked out to his entrance music, Peter Fury tweeted:

Re: Dillian Whyte in the AJ rematch?
strangely no shoulder injury was mentioned until 48 hours post fight (from what I remember). Whyte does not look in good shape, he had many weeks to prepare and he came in looking like tony tubbs! in this day and age its not excusable, so many strength and conditioning people available...for the right money. am i not correct in assuming whyte has history of trying to take the 'short cut' to strength and conditioning. I would suggest that, with his build, with hard work and a decent S&C team he could peak at about 16st10.
Whyte also needs to cut out the pretentious gangster crap. it makes him look a complete bell end and not particularly affable to the general public. he needs to hone his fan base as well as his S&C.
whilst i credit whyte for his 'have a go' attitude, he came in with the same preparation as he has done for his previous fights against tomato cans. this was a big step up from that. with bigger purses comes bigger expectations. no wonder he kept his t shirt on at the head to head at the weigh in, he probably had a bra on under it!

What heavyweight has looked in good shape in the last 15 years? The 110 years or so of heavyweights carving themselves down into frenetic bundles of sinew has long since passed.

Anyway, enough of being pedantic. In a rematch Whyte would lose again as the confidence is much lower. That massive self belief from the last time they shared the ring when he won is also now knowledge that things have changed, levels have moved at a different speed and AJ may have wobbled but he also took what Whyte had to offer and by the end, Whyte could not take it in return

I'm not a big fan of boxers mentioning injuries after a loss, however in his defence it was well known he had a shoulder injury in his last fight and he did appear to me to be slightly injured part way through the AJ fight. I don't know how injured or if it had a bearing on the outcome but I think he definitely did have a reoccurrence of the shoulder issue.rhino222 wrote:strangely no shoulder injury was mentioned until 48 hours post fight (from what I remember). Banks did mention the injury straight after the fight in his interview with Kugan; though hastened to make a point of not inflating it.rhino222 wrote:strangely no shoulder injury was mentioned until 48 hours post fight (from what I remember). It's super early so I'm allowed to make grammatical mistakes :Ptobyh5 wrote:Just pointing this out, to be an arsehole but also because it jumps out at me but who can you agree COMPLETELY in the MOST part. Most part suggests that you do not agree with all, so cannot be completely.

Someone on here mentioned the shoulder a day or two prior to the fight I believe.rhino222 wrote:strangely no shoulder injury was mentioned until 48 hours post fight (from what I remember). I don't have much interest in a rematch. Whyte had some moments and made AJ look vulnerable at times, but it wasn't sufficiently competitive or entertaining for me to want to see another. DW has also looked like a basic plodder without notable speed in all his fights I've seen, and I doubt that he suddenly turns into a guy who troubles AJ with movement and quickness.

Well off the top of my head, Klitschko x 2, Haye, Wilder, Joshua and plenty more.Tuan_Jim wrote:What heavyweight has looked in good shape in the last 15 years? The 110 years or so of heavyweights carving themselves down into frenetic bundles of sinew has long since passed.

I would much rather see Whyte against Chisora.

I'd say all those guys are carrying too much artificial bulk.keithmoonhangover wrote:Well off the top of my head, Klitschko x 2, Haye, Wilder, Joshua and plenty more.Tuan_Jim wrote:What heavyweight has looked in good shape in the last 15 years? No need for a rematch. AJ is simply better in my opinion.

How in the hell in Wilder carrying too much artificial bulk? The lad's like a whippet man.
Re: Dillian Whyte in the AJ rematch?
I certainly don't see the point in a return fight. Apart from a single round, AJ was in charge of the fight. Whyte Vs Chisora would be a really exciting to watch, and I would much rather see that fight.
Although I do agree that Whyte needs to drop some pounds, he is never going to be bobbing and weaving much. His strength is his power, and dropping some pounds may take some of that away.
