Thanks for the clip mate. Reminded me of Murphy v Farnell a couple of years ago, although the ref didn't let Murphy take half a dozen blows to the head and stopped it the minute he turned his back.

Don't think there was anything suspicious about the finish. Gomez made it clear he wanted to stop and probably expected the ref to intervene.

Would have been nice to see Gomez whirl round and flatten MsDonough as he punched away at the back of his head! What was the referee doing...?

That has to be one of the most bizzare endings to a fight I have ever seen, its even more bizarre than I thought it would be. Gomez clearly gave up after that flush right hand. What on earth was the referee doing he should have jumped in quicker.

Listen that was ligit, the natural movement was clear his whole defense dropped as being caught flush on the temple/jaw. Watch it, i think it was a legitamate stoppage. Anyone else? :box:

It looked OK to me...and if Gomez was going to take a dive (unlikely given his pedigree) then surely he'd have made a better job of it! Like, he could have staggered back when the shot landed, absorbed one ot two more, and gone down....as it was, he walked around the ring, took a few more, and went down!

I think the hiatus has emerged partly because of the strange ending BUT largely because of bookmaker reaction. I'd like to see how much Boylesports actually laid at 125/1.... and my hunch would be "not too much". If I were "masterminding a coup" at those sort of odds I'd make sure that I spread the bet around in small sums across a number of bookmakers - and if ony a few were offering odds (or odds big enough to make a bet worthwhile) then I wouldn't expect to get too much on.

A sad end to a career of a fighter that gave his all in most of his fights.

Looked like he got sickened by that tasty left hook to the body. If he'd actually just went down from that one I doubt there'd be this furore.

I think an Oliver McCall performance would have followed if MCDonagh hadn't jumped all over him. Very strange.

I looked at it a few times and thought it was wierd. I got the Mrs to have a look at the footage as she has no interest in boxing knows nothing about the fight and she said why is he letting him hit him...

Awwww bless her!

Some of the the things women come out with during boxing are baffling, my alltime favourite is bird walking into room and saying "who's playing?" when the boxing is on. That's happened to me with 2 different birds.

PLAYING? It's not a bloody tickling contest.

My girlfriend text me whilst I was unfortunate enough to be at Harrison v Williams to ask me "what's the score?"

Instead of questioning the honesty of Gomez the Irish board should look at the competence of their referee....
