Great heavyweight triple header on Wilder card 1/16

Post by sweetviolenturge »

Complain all you want about the now fractured state of the heavyweight title, but regardless, it's brought about one of the best heavyweight line ups we've seen on a single card in a very long time.
Hard to believe that it was less than a week ago that many of us were convinced that Barclay's card was going to be an awful affair, what with Wilder not even having an opponent to defend his 'BC belt against.
But, now, he's got a pretty decent challenger in front of him in Szpilka. And, in the semi main event we've got unbeatens Glazkov vs Martin for the 'BF belt. Also, just to get thinks started, there's a good match up between two good bangers in Dom Breazeale & Amir Mansour.
Good stuff IMO.

It's a pretty solid card. Really not amazing, as there isn't a single 50/50 match-up on it. Wilder, Glazkov, and Mansour should all be pretty obvious favorites. But still a solid card, as it affects the fates of 6 heavyweights who have pretty few losses and undetermined futures.

Good card.
You wonder with Wilder-Glazkov on the same card whether they will push for a unification bout in the summer.

Good fight for Wilder as he'd become a unified champion and would maybe provide leverage to not have the Povetkin fight.

Good fight for Glazkov as a career high pay day and he would probably fancy his chances.

Seems like the WBC and IBF have the same goal in mind.... make Wilder a unified champion.... without risking the man's record for a very long time, because Fury dominated the best heavyweight we have had in a decade. So I wouldn't hold my breath on a Fury/Wilder showdown any time soon. And the WBC/IBF will make a bundle out of it, and so will GoldenBoy because the American fans (in general) are ignorant to the fact that Wilder does indeed have his limitations and they will have him matched up with a bunch of undersized leading contenders, and fringe contenders with no chance of winning to give the appearance of dominance while the true champion of the world is taking the hardest fights possible.

brezeale looked bad on the wilder undercard in september. i thought he lost to that
journeyman, and after the fight he seemed delusional about his performance.
mansour may be too much for d.b.

after the last big hw bill went tits up i hope this one holds together.

i like charles martin

the wilder v spilka matchup is pretty crap but they were obviously going to make this. Its hard to get to excited about this, spilka wont be able to overcome the height difference, he's not a huge puncher...and was taken apart by one nice body punch from Jennings...hardly contender status...but then Wilder isnt really a champ.

Breazeal v mansour will be very scrappy indeed

Glazkov 250-300k
Martin 150-200k

I've heard Glazkov is getting around the 750k mark.
