Re: Next For Liam Smith?
As BP said earlier Michel Soro would be a great fight, there styles would make for a really fun fight.
Re: Next For Liam Smith?
Smith is very good when he warms up and gets the range, I think he'll box better with a better class of opponent. No disrespect intended to Kelly who boxed well and gave his all but Smith needs a proven 12 round championship class boxer next. Lara would be too slick and too much as would Trout but anyone who stands with him will be in a hard fight.
Re: Next For Liam Smith?
Demetrius Andrade
Re: Next For Liam Smith?
He'd be another very tough fight for Smith, Sam - Andrade is very skilled, I can't see him getting a shot.samwbr wrote:Demetrius Andrade

Be good to see tho eh? I like Andrade a lot, he's a match for anyone in the division, and I think he could move up to MW and do well there.palooka wrote:He'd be another very tough fight for Smith, Sam - Andrade is very skilled, I can't see him getting a shot.samwbr wrote:Demetrius Andrade
Re: Next For Liam Smith?
It would be good to see, I've only seen Demetrius against Rose and he looked very skilled and had good power, he's certainly a couple of levels above anyone Liam has faces so far.samwbr wrote:Be good to see tho eh? Re: Next For Liam Smith?
I think he has moved up to Middleweight. I hope he just fights someone who is actually approaching world class, he's calling himself a world champion after all. The kid last night, with all due respect for the effort he put in, was not even British level.palooka wrote:It would be good to see, I've only seen Demetrius against Rose and he looked very skilled and had good power, he's certainly a couple of levels above anyone Liam has faces so far.samwbr wrote:Be good to see tho eh? Not sure mate, I wonder if there wont be several blokes who are genuine world level who'll be happy to stand with him, but just be better at it. I'm thinking Murray-Rios, for example. I've no doubt there are blokes out there in the world who can outmatch Smith, whose proof of strength at the actual top level is limited to say the least.palooka wrote:Smith is very good when he warms up and gets the range, I think he'll box better with a better class of opponent. Mention of Austin Trout being mandatory.
Might be nice to face Mosley in a voluntary beforehand to get his profile up in the States.
How does Smith fair against Trout?

Brian Rose or Carson Jones.
That'll give the deluded British media even more chance to laud him as a world class operator

Re: Next For Liam Smith?
Somebody on here mentioned Vanes the other day, I think that would be a cracker.
If he out muscles and bullies Vanes that would be a statement.
He does need a top ten opponent soon if he is to be taken seriously.
It will likely be Williams though.

Re: Next For Liam Smith?
Would like to see him against Vanes Martirosyan or Austin Trout next to really gage how good he is.
Think he gets outboxed by Andrade, Lara and the Charlo twins.

Re: Next For Liam Smith?
If you were managing Smith's career I'd say someone like Mosely (name value), Culcay (IMO over rated in Germany and very winnable) or Ishe Smith / Vanes (US TV interest). Two or three years ago Ishe could have messed Smith around but now I'd see Smith bulldozing him. Vanes and Culcay are at the same stages of their careers as Smith but I just think he'd catch up with them.
I'd personally like the Soro fight as a fan. It would be a good fight but I reckon Soro stops him late on in a cracker.
If Trout hasn't gone dropped back significantly he's a good level or two above Smith. Lara would stand him on his head, terrible opponents for him IMO. Andrade probably similar.
Cotto is worth the risk. I think he's close to the end. It could be a masterstroke timing wise and a loss wouldn't be a disaster. Cannae see an elite operator like Cotton being interested though.
Gomez is shot and would be a pointless slaughter. Only of any use on a televised card in the US to up his profile there.
Rewind 4/5 years and Smith v Pawel Wojak would have been a barnstormer just below world class level!

Re: Next For Liam Smith?
It is tough, I think Smith is improving with every fight, but there are a lot of fighters in the division at the moment who I think would see him as an easy night's work.

Never gonna happen but would love Kell Brook v Liam Smith... Would be a barnburner IMO, Liam is very underrated IMO.

Re: Next For Liam Smith?
Shame Maciel lost recently as I think Smith Vs Maciel would have been interesting, Soro obvious interesting, Patrick Teixeira could be fun- and he's no just your typical Brazilian as he has traveled well with wins in the US and Mexico. Unfortunately with it being Warren I suspect Ahmet Patterson, Sirimongkol Singwancha (well worth a look at his record btw) and Yao Yi Ma are quite possible

Re: Next For Liam Smith?
No way Warren will be wanting to lose this belt.
I think he will fight either Williams (same stable) or Ishe Smith (name but winnable fight).
He's also got other fighters at the weight in his stable Corcoran and Patterson but it would be tough to sell these as a credible fight after the Kelly one.
Universally I think Vanes would be a great option he has the name and would probably travel. I still think this may be considered too dangerous for Smith though.

Re: Next For Liam Smith?
Patterson would have been a much more worthy contender than Kelly and Patterson is a class fighter
Re: Next For Liam Smith?

I'm guessing this would be a fight in the States?PredatorHayds wrote:Be interesting to see what weight they have offered.
But Liam Smith has next to no name in the US.
Would be good if W@rren could get an older US-name over to the UK to get Smiths name talked about in the US.
I'm thinking Mosley, Ortiz, Smith or Gomez. Somebody to fight and beat and get a reaction Stateside...
Re: Next For Liam Smith?
Wee bit on sky saying he's considering an offer from Canelo.
