Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
i find some of his comments regarding Eubank Jr baffling:
"If I don't beat Eubank jr in 5 rounds I will retire".
"If Eubank wants a rematch I'll happily give him one".
"Yeah he looked alright against Chudinov but he couldn't do that the spike o'sullivan".
"Eubank isn't in my class".
"Eubank would be too scared to fight spike and if he did I'd bet anyone £10,000 that spike would knock him out".
And now he's beaten spike.
"I'm not fighting Eubank Jr I'd rather fight Nick Blackwell".
Just to outline a few of his comments.
Surely he should be gunning for a fight with Eubank just for the payday and the WBA ranking.
What is BJS going to say if Eubank beats Jacobs?

Re: Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
Saunders is the one trying to avoid a rematch when Eubank was the one who turned it down because it meant ditching his WBA interim title, which is their third tier belt, when a win in the rematch would have given him the fight with Lee for the WBO title.
That probably qualifies as duck of the year.
One has just won a world title, the other is all set to fight for the British title against an opponent the other beat comfortably 3 years ago, after having a war with a man the other schooled 2 1/2 years ago.

Saunders might be trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr - but if he is, it's just to piss Eubank off as BJS clearly doesn't like him one bit.

Do you mean the rematch that was pretend offered after Eubank signed to sky. And the war which was Eubank smashing up a guy BJS went the distance with?expe wrote:![]()

I'm pretty neutral on these 2 fighters and have to say that I think eubank jar needs a big win to catch Billy Joe now. He lost clearly to him and Billy Joe has just won a world title.
Would like to see a rematch but won't be having a go at BJS for it to happen unless Eubank gives him no other option.
He needs to look at what Khan did while he waited (hoped) for the mayweather fight and do the opposite

Finn your buying into eubank are you?
When they fight again (and they will), BJS wins easier.

Re: Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
I think he just feels Eubank is overrated and gets too much media attention. He's probably also frustrated at being asked about Eubank all the time as if he didn't have other options (which he does).
Re: Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
No, the rematch that was offered after they both pulled out of the show in May before Eubank's contract ran out. The war in which Eubank stood toe to toe and was hurt by a man that couldn't touch Saunders for 12 rounds.Finn wrote:Do you mean the rematch that was pretend offered after Eubank signed to sky. Would rather see Eubank win a world title then a massive unification fight.

I'd rather see them both get beaten by Golovkin.

Re: Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
I think it's a fight that is bound to happen again and I reckon it will be a genuine 50/50. I don't think BJS is ducking him, but apparently the Eubanks are an absolute nightmare to do business with, he probably can't be arsed with all that right now.

I buy into the fact that he understands he has to be exciting in the ring as its an entertainment sport. I'm not sold in him being the next big boxing legend.Stevieb8006 wrote:Finn your buying into eubank are you?

I'm a fan of Saunders as well, I just think for all his talking he won a very close fight against an inexperienced Eubank and doesn't seem keen to face him again.
If BJS's next fights are against the big names at middle weight then that's a different story but if not surely he should be keen to stop the Eubank express.

I'm sure they will face again. Too much dough not to. They'll prob let it grow a while thoFinn wrote:I buy into the fact that he understands he has to be exciting in the ring as its an entertainment sport. BJS will probably beat Eubank in the rematch.
He will likely edge him over most rounds, rather than set a fierce pace then fade like he did last time.

Considering that it was only one point on one judges scorecard away from being a draw i find it hard that so many people have bjs down as winning the first fight easily. Think the rematch between the two will be a great 50/50 fight but eubank needs to bring a belt to the table and hope bjs keeps hold of his.
Re: Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
Agreed. Not sure he needs a title but he does need a quality win or two.afcmarshall wrote:Considering that it was only one point on one judges scorecard away from being a draw i find it hard that so many people have bjs down as winning the first fight easily. Chudinov was a step in the right direction but Jetter, O'Sullivan and Blackwell are not a trio to force a creditable world title challenge off the back of
Re: Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
only person saunders is avoiding is GGG which kind of ruins boxing and the idea of being the best in the business.
I think eubank under the work of booth will probably set a better pace in the first half of the fight whether it has any effect is a different matter.
do I want to see it not really til back end of next year. I also want eubank to fight Jacobs over Blackwell.

Re: Is Saunders trying to avoid a rematch with Eubank Jr?
Eubank jr made a big mistake in posing about too much, since then he has been all business from the start, next time he beats BJS who keeps fading in his fights, but just managing to sneak them, because of him being the home fighter, can see him coming unstuck soon, rather then later.Stevieb8006 wrote:Finn your buying into eubank are you?

Booth didn't exactly get Lee setting any sort of pace against Saundersnitro5912 wrote: I think eubank under the work of booth will probably set a better pace in the first half of the fight whether it has any effect is a different matter.

Its to early for a rematch... it's to early for a build up to a big fight
