Even Phil the power has been banging on about how sky sports is the best sports channel and that he wants to be thought of like themste1983 wrote:Thischad wrote:wesshaw1985 wrote:
I've said this before. It's not Eddie who's the biggest and best promoter in the UK, it's SKY.
Its not just the exposure theres a sort of belief (from the casuals and it stretches across all sports not just boxing) that anything on Sky is naturally better than on any other channel. Sadly with football etc being on sky since 1992 we now pretty much live with generations and generations who've never thought any different.

It's already sort of PPV already at £12 a month just for a few cards of boxing per month. I wouldn't stand for anymore than what i already pay for allegedly.belta53 wrote:Eddie mentioned on an IFL TV clip that they sold less than 4,000 tickets for this event.
Seems a poor number to me for a card that had some interesting contests.
The public must have been skeptical about the card after the shift in venue and date etc.
Eddie mentions that he thinks allegedly will introduce a PPV channel next year, how could that work?
I am definitely one of those people who is massively sceptical about Warren cards, they've fallen apart so many times in the past that he's made his own bed with that one really. He's got a lot of rebuilding to do with the fans, allegedly is doing a good job partly but he needs a consistent run of putting on decent shows that don't fall apart.
Re: Ticket giveaways for the Lee vs BJS show
if the a r s e has fallen out of ticket sales on a show why dont they start selling empty blocks at 20 quid a seat? i thought about going but didnt for several reasons. One was the money because the fight had been cancelled twice already and was worried it was going to again (last ticket i bought ended up being eubank jnr v jeter at the top of the bill, obv matchroom but that was a card with only one big fight on it too). smith v kelly was a bit of a joke, the title doesnt really mean ote when fights like that are for it. it's close to christmas too, and ive just paid out for tickets for the football so had to cut my cloth. after watching how bad bjs v lee turned out to be im glad i didnt go....i enjoyed watching the fights on allegedly but going to see it live would cost about 150 quid in total and it just wasnt worth it.
Re: Ticket giveaways for the Lee vs BJS show
Lower tier looked pretty full, looked like at least 8k in there. Although how many were given away I don't know. I won tickets on a allegedly comp. Deserved to sell a lot more with that main event but the fear of another cancellation and so close to xmas maybe didn't help sales and yeah as people have mentioned there's no sky hype machine to help boost the sales. I have bought tickets for Flanagan vs Matthews tho and would expect it to sell well if theres a couple of local lads on the undercard. Bet Frank is begging Liam Smith to fight on it.

None of fwanks fighters appeal, or cross-over, to the general public. Fury and Eubank have cross over appeal and they've gone to sky. Fwank has good fighters but generally speaking it's dedicated boxing fans who know about them. I can't see how that will ever change really. BN as a platform does not reach the masses like sky does. Fwank has had decades of filling arenas but it has been with fighters who have had massive tv exposure. I suppose the ideal solution would be for him to unearth another ticket seller like Hatton (or even josh Warrington) and build around him. I think that if lee and Saunders had fought for the past few years on sky sports the arena would have been sold out on sat night. Not knocking Frank or BN it's just difficult to get the right exposure if you are not on sky sports.

spending money on posters in london is poor marketing, they should be hammering facebook, instagram and twitter with adverts instead. i think thats the only way they can compete with sky in any way. it's a shame as with the right financials behind it, it would blow sky out of the water for shows. saying that i wouldnt lend fwank a fiver, and expect to get it back.

My mate who is in the army has got tickets for the troops tickets for both Queensbury & Matchroom shows.
Re: Ticket giveaways for the Lee vs BJS show
Not really that's a subscription if you class that as pay per view then Sky is also already pay per view on the (ever decreasing) months they don't have a box office show as Sky Sports is approx £20 a month for what 1 card?TheCobra wrote:It's already sort of PPV already at £12 a month just for a few cards of boxing per month. i mean it's not being spent right. maybe the people behind him dont know how to spend the money to promote it better. but some of the shows have been great but not had the attendance or viewing they deserve.mickey1975 wrote:He has huge backing.Kingfield wrote:spending money on posters in london is poor marketing, they should be hammering facebook, instagram and twitter with adverts instead. i think thats the only way they can compete with sky in any way. it's a shame as with the right financials behind it, it would blow sky out of the water for shows. saying that i wouldnt lend fwank a fiver, and expect to get it back.

Don't know how it works but could allegedly become a free to air channel then have 10/12 ppv bills a year say charging £12/£17 a time. Casual boxing fans aren't going to commit to £12 every month but as matchroom have shown they will for one off events.
Re: Ticket giveaways for the Lee vs BJS show
Yeh but Sky has Premiership football, International football, Spanish football plus lots of other sports coverage. It's not a like for like comparison. I think there's only just enough shows on BN to cover the £12 a month fee, most the other time they're just showing old fights and filler.ste1983 wrote:Not really that's a subscription if you class that as pay per view then Sky is also already pay per view on the (ever decreasing) months they don't have a box office show as Sky Sports is approx £20 a month for what 1 card?TheCobra wrote:

Re: Ticket giveaways for the Lee vs BJS show
Could see BN introducing two levels of subscription. A cheaper £8 or something which is everything you get now, and a £15/20 option which includes "Premium Events" or something.
Re: Ticket giveaways for the Lee vs BJS show
Yeh so long as it's available on a 'one-off' basis to anyone then I could see it working ok. Don't think they're going to be reducing their baseline subscription fee though!simonwalsh wrote:Could see BN introducing two levels of subscription. I watch more 'filler' on allegedly (at least 3 shows a week not including live events) than a do anything on Sky and still pay less than half.
But regardless your original point was that allegedly was almost pay per view because you pay £12 a month for it the fact is whatever you think of the content if that makes allegedly pay per view it also makes Sky Sports 1-4 pay per view.

Re: Ticket giveaways for the Lee vs BJS show
It was only the lower tier and it wasn't full by any means. But in fairness FW shows are only for your hardcore boxing fans. Your average sports fan probably couldn't name ten current UK boxers such is the paucity of boxing coverage in the media these days.
BN is outstanding value for money imo.
They've had all the middleweight title fights recently including Canelo v Cotto which qualifies as a superfight in my book. There are usually at least 2 good cards a month which 9 times out of 10 feature world title bouts.
Then you've got Buncey, all the archive stuff, Kugan's show if you like that kind of thing, Boxing Matters etc etc
Compare that to Sky who've discontinued Ringside which I used to enjoy and now only show boxing in the run up to PPV events. And even then it's the same "boxing gold" fights running on a loop which only stretch back to the Hatton era as well as Behind The Ropes etc which once Sky's neverending adverts are taken into account only delivers about 18minutes of actual content

Re: Ticket giveaways for the Lee vs BJS show
Going down a now tv style route I think could work they could charge say £12 for a day pass £15 for a week pass then £20 for a month pass with no subscription charge that way people who currently subscribe would still be happy, But casual fans would be more inclined to buy one off events this could then lead to potentially more people subscribing.
