Shane Mosley: If Hopkins Can Go To 47, 48 - So Can I!

"Sugar" Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 41KOs) is looking to continue his career for another three to four years.

Mosley, 44-years-old and a three division world champion, returned in August after a near two-year layoff and stopped Ricardo Mayorga in the sixth round of their rematch in California. He cam eback again last Saturday in Panama, knocking out Patrick Lopez in the tenth.

There is no stopping his run. He sees no reason as to why he can't emulate the historic charge of Bernard Hopkins, who plans to fight again in 2016 at 51-years-old.

Mosley is not looking to fight as long as Hopkins, but he could see his career continue to play out until at least 47 or 48-years-old.

His goal is to win another world title. Mosley has captured multiple world titles at lightweight, welterweight and junior middleweight.

"I want to prove to myself that at this age I can still be world champion. I want to prove to people who say I'm old and I can't, show them that yes I can. And that I can do at this age, no matter how old I am. I think I'm one of the best fighters of all time, I love boxing, I love being in the ring," Mosley told Lo Mejor Del Boxeo.

"I love to fight, and while I can do it I will continue fighting until he can no longer do so. I can go 3 or 4 years and then I will retire with dignity. 3 or 4 years means I'll be 47 or 48 years old. If Bernard Hopkins can do it, I can too. There are many boxers who fight in their 40s, but I have the ability to beat young fighters. So why not to win another world championship and then retire."

Shane is in very good form for his age. He cannot beat the top boxers now, but definitely can beat 95% of welterweights and light middleweight for decent money until age of 46 or 47 :box:

I don't know what's more insulting about these quotes, Shane Mosley comparing himself to the great Bhop or the fact that he actually said "I think I'm one of the best fighters of all time". The most overrated fighter in history would be more like it.

Mosley and Cotto should fight before they both retire and the loser will officially be named the Most Overrated Boxer in history. That's the only way i'm tuning in to watch Mosley fight again.

Cotto would punch Mosley senseless inside a few rounds if they fought now.

great career and was the only boxer
who came close to knocking out floyd
... and that well past his own prime.

Hopkins was looking good and competitive at very high levels of the sports all the way up those ages though. Mosley has already begun losing to a far lesser level than he once competed at.

Mosley's admitted to using steroids against Oscar and clearly got to the top taking a shortcut. You take away those wins while on that junk and he's lost almost every big fight he's been in. My vote would never include his name for HOF. I just wish he'd go way.

Mosley was not with BALCO yet in 2000 when he beat first Oscar the first time.
That's one win over Oscar while with BALCO the first was three years before Shane was associated with them.
Shane first went to BALCO in the summer before the September 2003 fight with Oscar, BALCO records confirmed that. Shane was with BALCO for exactly one fight before federal agents shut them down. The labs were actually raided by federal agents the week before the second De La Hoya fight.
His involvement with BALCO is verified by the records they kept on him, beyond that there is exactly zero proof of PED use for any other fight in his career.

Why not.he has all the talent in the world moreso than hopkins did.a bigger puncher and faster more workrate and exciting too.
Sure hes lost speed and reflexes but he was so gifted in this department he still seems faster than 80percent out there.the key is,adapting his, style ,useing his brain being able to adapt,an area where hopkins is far far superior.he would destroy liam smith.....he just needs to avoid the thurmans and stay in tip top shape when he fights

i don't share the belief that the sport is
clean at top level. it do not see why boxing
should be any different from cycling.

He "Was" a Super star even if he were "the quiet type". Of course he will give himself those props! Yes he is not quite up to snuff of A B'HOP! BUT, he is very much in the neighborhood so....can't blame him how he hopes and thinks! Bernard never been "stopped"! Mosley got his "record" ruin in that respect! I can't speak about the "drugs". I would say he is RATIONABLE & SAIN! & if he does have some "pinches" of SUCCESS, may well add to his stature the way B'HOP added to his own!
