I hope Canelo uses this tune up as an opportunity to get used to the 160 limit and that he goes on to fight GGG at 160 also.
I know it is unlikely but I can hope.

History can be twisted to fit any narrative, look at how the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito fight can be presented with a narrative of fight night weights or the promotional weights. But is presented as the eight weight class belt for Pacquiao.

True.

But real fans know it was a farce.

And real fans know how Homicide Hank really did it across weight classes simultaneously, or how Sugar Ray gave up 16 lbs to LaMotta one fight, or how going up and down in weight was the real opponent that beat Roy Jones Jr.

And real fans will give lil g credit if he goes down in weight yet wins

If the real objective is to give GGG credit then real fans should be suggesting Alvarez should be fighting for a 154 belt next and GGG dropping a weight class to fight for that belt.
Uncontroversially that would be a better achievement than fighting for a catchweight MW belt.

p.s. Real fans should be against catchweight fights

I am usually.

But when a guy spouts nonsense about being able to do it for 3 years while never actually getting around to it?

Yeah, time to put your money where your mouth is.

You'll have to show me the quote of GGG saying he wants to fight for a MW belt at a promotional weight of 155?

Lil g, his trainer, and his promoter have talked for years about him being able to fight anyone in 3 or 4 weight classes.

I have posted a link in least 2 other threads of Loeffler saying in November of 2014 that there would be no problem with Golovkin going down in weight for a big money title fight for the middleweight belt.

Feel free to look it up.

This latest stance is lil g being a hypocrite.

The funniest part about the whole thing to me is that if you did a surprise weigh in of GGG and Canelo today, no doubt that Canelo would be heavier than GGG.

The biggest factor here is AGE. Canelo can handle losing 20 plus pounds of water weight two days before a fight without depleting himself and hurting his ability to fight at full strength on fight night. GGG's could never do that at this stage of his career without affecting his performance in the ring.

With Cotto, I could understand the catchweight because weight gain is a huge problem for him and he'd have a big disadvantage in size in the ring with GGG. But not the same situation with Canelo's catchweight demand and that's why it seems like one of the biggest pussy moves i've seen in awhile. Canelo and GGG are the same size so it's not a good look for Canelo. I still love the kid but it's hurting his image.

DLH was talking about Khan or Bradley. That would be hilarious.

Reluctance to move to 155 is a negotiation position. And asking for a 'bigger' big money fight would seem in line with the K2 position.
While catchweights can be requested a counter-request for a larger slice of pie seems fair, and negotiable position.
You only get what you negotiate in boxing so for K2 to roll over and just accept 155 would be negligent in their responsibility to their fighter.

Well Lee is probably out now and I highly doubt that BJS decides to fight GGG this year.

I'm thinking that we get Johnson next......after that I'm not sure.

Who does Saunders fight? Jacobs? Daniel Jacobs will get stripped of his WBA regular title if they fight, WBO doesnt recognise it for unification fights.

Canelo vs Saunders is now possible for 160 unification bout, Saunders has stated he will not fight GGG (Except if Golovkin overpays him about 2 - 3 Million which I doubt will happen) And he will make a ton of money facing the mexican superstar...

I dont know things got messy with this BJS win, we wont see an undisputed middleweight champ now.

GGG is the mandatory for Canelo's WBC title; if Canelo insists on 155, GGG can simply refuse and the WBC will strip Canelo.
Canelo will be the biggest boxing joke in years, considering he enters the ring heavier than GGG, and mexican fans know it.

I really do not see the WBC stripping Canelo. If anything Canelo would throw away the belt and fight
for another alphabet groups belt.
These groups know that they will make the most off of Canelo and integrity means nothing to these groups.

I hope I am wrong I just do not see Canelo-GGG coming in 2016

I don't see how Canelo can not fight Golovkin in 2016 and keep the WBC belt. The only way seem to be doubling the step aside money.

For all the flack Loeffler is getting lately, remember last time he got GGG another belt AND a PPV date.
I'm sure he has it all covered for Gennady: he will be WBC champ in 2016, with or without Canelo. :TU:

For all of those GGG haters out there criticizing him, for god knows what, here's a quote from the new shareholder of the Middleweight Title, Billy Joe Saunders:

“I would never go into a fight thinking I could lose. Ever – but I don’t care what money it was, I just wouldn’t do it. (fight GGG),” Saunders said to IFL TV. “If they (Golovkin’s team) come and offered me stupid money I’d sit down and I’d think – ‘they’ve offered me good money, let me have a look at him on the internet and a look at the weigh in and I’d sit there and think, ‘yeah, I can beat him."

“I’ll tell you what sort of fighter I am, I’m up, I’m straight and I’m honest. I fancy my chances with any 160 in the world. Any 160 – take him (Golovkin) out of the equation,” Saunders said. “And I’m the sort of fighter who wants to win every single fight I fight in, and I know I can beat every 160. On my day I know I can beat them all – but minus him. (GGG).”

This is what GGG is up against and the respect that he garners. When have you seen anything like this in boxing? Here's an undefeated world champion clearly stating that he can't beat GGG and he's afraid and doesn't care who knows it. That's how good GGG is.

Fair play to BJS though, at least he's not bull shitting like most fighters are, he's said in the past that GGG would beat him, Eubank and any other top middleweight in the same night.

The WBC have always been right up the butts of Mexican fighters, they will probably let him get away with it.

Everything's possible in boxing, but i'm willing to bet GGG will fight for the WBC title in 2016, with or without Canelo.
