“Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.”
booth was pretty useless
Re: Next For Andy Lee?
I think if lee fought bjs again he could win. But there styles dont make fights. No point fighting Eubanks dangerous not worth it. I go with dave limeux
Re: Next For Andy Lee?
I think andy lees sparring wasent up to much. Sparring a lad that cant win an area title is not good preparation for a world title fight. Thoughts?
Re: Next For Andy Lee?
He'll get fed to Golovkin and then retire.
Re: Next For Andy Lee?
Good post....shocking when you put it like that really. I've not seen it myself but on paper it looked hot enough....I know Lee must be 7 or 8yrs older but a couple of localish lads for a world title, pity. Saunders is starting to look like somebody that can get a job done. Even when he's criticised he ends up with green instead of red in his column.palooka wrote:There was absolutely no passion in his performance. It took him a lifetime of training and sacrifice to win the title and then he does very little, took no risks and allowed his world title to be lost without even a fight. Why on earth would he let himself box like that and why did his corner not wake him up to the reality of the situation? He was too concerned with smiling and tapping gloves at the end of the rounds. Why he threw his hands in the air at the end of the bout is anyone's guess. I've seen boxers give their absolute best and walk through hard punches to get a win for an area title and a 2 grand purse. Shocking display of boxing and he let himself down.
I remember Martin Power and Argie Ward in 2006. British belt. Traveller vs. Traveller. A blistering, if ultimately, comprehensive result - some say Power's best performance.....but this fight sounds nothing Iike that brilliant occasion at the York Hall.
Re: Next For Andy Lee?
I think Lee's ultimate goal in boxing was to win a world title. Maybe he just doesn't have the same hunger any more.

Both trained by Booth, unless one gets a new trainer it won't happen.Counter-puncher wrote:Yeah, why not?Wales wrote:Eubank Jnr?

Re: Next For Andy Lee?
I'd like to see Andy v Lemieux, David would press the action and force Lee to bomb back. It ought to be an action bout and would make up for the tepid bout v Billy Joe.

Re: Next For Andy Lee?
I'd be down with seeing him fight any of the fighters on the list. I thought he deserved the win over Saunders. Other than the knockdown round, Saunders did very little in the rest of the fight.
Andy Lee wasn't especially in that fight either, but he was at least more consistent with his jab and straight lefts than Saunders was.

that's exactly the name I thought of when I saw this threadThe Young One wrote:Wasn't there talk of Matthew Macklin? Not sure if he is staying down at LMW though?
Re: Next For Andy Lee?
My god MW is boring. I looked at that list of names and thought there is no way I would go out of my way to watch any of those guys fight.
Obviously I enjoy GGG, I am interested in Eubank jnr... That's it really. Andy Lee seems a nice bloke but not particularly interesting. I find it hard to warm to BJS and their fight was absolutely dreadful. It made the somewhat similar Degale-Dirrell fight look like a barnstormer.
It just seems such a weak division. These lads may have titles but other than that they have no real claim at all.

The jackson and quillin affairs were hard tough fightsTarkus wrote:Lee had a long and distinguished carrier. Its time to hang up the gloves. Way his workrate dropped recently, how cagey and reluctant he is to engage. He doesn't have it him no more in my opinion. His chin is also shot. To get dropped by an absolute non puncher. He needs to retire. Otherwise the next time he gets dropped, he is not getting up and it wont be pretty.
I agree he didnt seem to give it his all in the last half ay like say a eubanks jnr .
An odd fight. Bjs takes a dominant lead than relaxes while letting lee win a lot of pitty patty nothing rounds where 5 landed jabs won the round
Lee needs to get the arrsehole back in his punches

There was me thinking that he got up off his arse from two very heavy knockdowns and still managed two win the remainder of the fight!palooka wrote:There was absolutely no passion in his performance. and let's not forget, many of his big wins have came from fights where he was losing and dug himself with one big punch, it's hardly like he's famed for walking through top level opponents

I'd love to see Lee knock out Cotto (not that I think that's what would happen).
