Anyone ever written to a ex boxer in prison?
Re: Anyone ever written to a ex boxer in prison?
The allied forces in Iraq had the opportunity to completely destroy the heroin crop in Afghanistan, which in turn would have decimated the world heroin trade, but they decided against it. Nevertheless men were free to shave off their beards for a time, if they wanted to.

I have, an old ex friend and retired boxer, named Brian Paul. Did time for possession and kidnapping (his ex and son were in the car with him).

If you deal drugs in America, you should prepare for the consequences. Who doesn't know how heavily US law comes down on criminals? Nunn was evidently an utter moron, and is now where he belongs.

But there ar emany woemn who write to lifers in the States and even marry them, simple question really, people may find it odd writing to cons but then again others may not. What ever makes your world go round, not for me to tell people how they live their lives.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Looking for a husband?mimmy123 wrote:Has anyone written to a boxer currently in prison? Drug sellers are purveyors of misery and degradation - they're some judge's words, not mine. Kind of hard to fathom how the prolific increase in production would be achievable without the tacit aid and support of the CIA really.

I don't know that's pretty sketchy 'proof'..... Afghanistan is a huge country, plenty of possibility for growing. U.S. do not control and watch every part of the countryjamesmcdonnell wrote:http://www.mintpressnews.com/rumors-per ... an/209687/

I'm not saying proof, but if you think the C.I.A have no history of getting heavily involved in the flow and control of drug money, you've either not done much reading, or you are incredibly naïve.reggaereggae wrote:I don't know that's pretty sketchy 'proof'..... The U.S know EXACTLY where the major growing areas are, do you have any idea how vast the poppy fields in Afghanistan are, this isn't a few bods with land growing poppies, it's opium production on an industrial scale, this doesn't happen unless you've got someone allowing it to happen.
The war on drugs has always been phony, it's always been about the control of drugs, rather than the eradication. Drugs are one of the best ways of keeping the population apathetic, and also of controlling economies. I'm not being a conspiracy theorist, it's just pragmatism.
Re: Anyone ever written to a ex boxer in prison?
I've read a pretty good book about the CIA and heroin production - The Politics Of Heroin - its a little dated though no doubt many governmental secrecy services aid and abett the production and trafficking of serious drugs like heroin - Mexico isn't the only narco state.reggaereggae wrote:I don't know that's pretty sketchy 'proof'..... One of the major warlords in the Golden Triangle offered all his opium over to the UN to be used as a base for medical use morphine. The warlord had the lives and security of many tens of thousands of villagers to think about. His offer was rebuffed and the opium continued to be made into heroin.

I'll bet a pound to a penny the judge did a bit of nose. The medical and legal profession are notorious for the drug abuse of their practitioners.magwitch wrote:Drug sellers are purveyors of misery and degradation - they're some judge's words, not mine. The upper classes know the danger of life's naughty luxuries being used by the great unwashed and don't mind judging them accordingly.

There are many instances of medical professionals in particular misusing their proximity to psychoactive substances, forging prescriptions etc. I've got a book on the shelf; Drug Impaired Professionals which goes into some anecdotal length with a variety of highly skilled professional occupations, though the book is US published.

Did I mention a study. I present no 'evidence' I used the word notorious, which obviously implies anecdotal evidence only. I worked in the medical profession for several years, and have friends in the legal profession, they themselves admitted their professions were raddled with substance and alcohol abuse.liamlion wrote:What study have you based that enitrely generalised statement on? I work in the legal industry and in my experience your statement is well wide of the mark - in facts its bollocks. Recreational drugs significantly impact upon performance.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Did I mention a study. The word notorious doesn't obviously imply anecdotal evidence only. For example, Peter Sutcliffe is a notorious and brutal murderer. There is nothing obviously anecdotal about that statement, its a factual statement based on proven evidence.
Im not a fan of generalisations.
Re: Anyone ever written to a ex boxer in prison?
I've watched the medical drama, House, the main character certainly had substance abuse issues.

Recreational drugs may well impede performance, but guess what, human beings are imperfect, there have been numerous instances of high court judges over the years who were involved in substance abuse and sex scandals. Even if the legal profession had no more than it's fair statistical share of substance abusers, it would be absolutely riddled with it - add in the fact that many of those at the top of their game in the profession are absolutely minted, and you have a perfect storm for drug abuse. To paraphrase, Cocaine is god's way of telling you you've got too much money.
